If you continue to believe as you have always believed,
you will continue to act as you have always acted.
If you continue to act as you have always acted,
you will continue to get what you have always gotten.
If you want different results in your life or your work,
all you have to do is change your mind.”
~Anonymous
"Different people must
contend with different trials,
But adversities in some
shape or other come to everyone."
--R. C. McCarthy
“True morality has its
inevitable compensations,
for when we benefit someone
we increase our own happiness.”
~Grapevine: March 1949
Three things that are real:
God, human folly and
laughter.
The first two are beyond
our comprehension
so we must do the best we
can
about the third.
~ John F. Kennedy
Let us consider that we are all insane.
It will explain us to each
other.
It will unriddle many riddles.

Big Book Quote
"If we are
painstaking about this phase of our development, we will
be amazed before we are half way through. We are going to know a new freedom and a new happiness. We will not regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it. We will comprehend the word serenity and we will know peace. No matter how far down the scale we have gone, we will see how our experience can benefit others. That feeling of uselessness and self-pity will disappear. We will lose interest in selfish things and gain interest in our fellows. Self-seeking will slip away. Our whole attitude and outlook upon life will change. Fear of people and of economic insecurity will leave us. We will intuitively know how to handle situations which used to baffle us. We will suddenly realize that God is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Into Action, Page 83~ |

12&12
Step Five - "Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another
human being the exact nature of our wrongs."
More realism and therefore more honesty about ourselves are the great gains we make under the influence of Step Five. As we took inventory, we began to suspect how much trouble self-delusion had been causing us. This had brought a disturbing reflection. If all our lives we had more or less fooled ourselves, how could we now be so sure that we weren't still self-deceived? How could we be certain that we had made a true catalog of our defects and had really admitted them, even to ourselves? Because we were still bothered by fear, self-pity, and hurt feelings, it was probable we couldn't appraise ourselves fairly at all. Too much guilt and remorse might cause us to dramatize and exaggerate our shortcomings. Or anger and hurt pride might be the smoke screen under which we were hiding some of our defects while we blamed others for them. Possibly, too, we were still handicapped by many liabilities, great and small, we never knew we had. pp. 58-59 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
Drinking cuts you off from God. No matter how you were brought up, no matter what your religion is, no matter if you say you believe in God, nevertheless you build up a wall between you and God by your drinking. You know you're not living the way God wants you to. As a result, you have that terrible remorse. When you come into A.A., you begin to get right with other people and with God. A sober life is a happy life, because by giving up drinking we've got rid of our loneliness and remorse. Do I have real fellowship with other people and with God? Meditation For The Day I believe that all sacrifice and all suffering is of value to me. When I am in pain, I am being tested. Can I trust God, no matter how I feel? Can I say Thy will be done, no matter how much I am defeated? If I can, my faith is real and practical. It works in bad times as well as in good times. The Divine Will is working in a way that is beyond my finite mind to understand, but I can still trust in it. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may take my suffering in my stride. I pray that I may accept pain and defeat as part of God's plan for my spiritual growth. |

Satisfaction
No satisfaction has been deeper and no joy greater than in a Twelfth Step job well done. To watch the eyes of men and
women with wonder as they
move from darkness into light, to see their lives quickly fill with new
purpose and meaning, to see whole families reassembled, to see the alcoholic
outcast received back into his community in full citizenship, and above all
to watch these people awaken to the presence of a loving God in their lives -
these things are the substance of what we receive as we carry A.A.'s message
to the next alcoholic.

Daily Reflection
OUR COMMON
WELFARE COMES FIRST
The unity of
Alcoholics Anonymous is the most cherished
quality our Society
has . . . We stay whole, or A. A. dies
TWELVE STEPS AND
TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 129
Our Traditions are
key elements in the ego deflation
process necessary to
achieve and maintain sobriety in
Alcoholics
Anonymous. The First Tradition reminds me
not to take credit,
or authority, for my recovery. Placing
our common welfare
first reminds me not to become a
healer in this
program; I am still one of the patients. Selfeffacing
elders built the
ward. Without it, I doubt I would
be alive. Without
the group, few alcoholics would recover.
The active role in
renewed surrender of will enables me
to step aside from
the need to dominate, the desire for
recognition, both of
which played so great a part in my
active alcoholism.
Deferring my personal desires for the
greater good of
group growth contributes toward A.A.
unity that is
central to all recovery. It helps me to
remember that the
whole is greater than the sum of all its
parts.

Pot Luck
Some of us are fond of saying "the devil made me do it" when we've done something we're not too proud of. We might as well say "the ego made me do it" because the ego is our own personal "devil." Sometimes we like to claim that we weren't in complete control of our actions, that we were overcome by an irresistible urge. We can't however, say that with a clear conscience. At one time in our addictive past, maybe, but not now. Now, we can be responsible. An urge can overcome us only to the extent that we let it - only as we give it the power of believing in it. We have a choice. We can listen to the voice of our ego, or the voice of God. How can we tell the difference? By how we feel. The ego's urgings always leave us with some misgivings. God's guidance assures us. I choose to listen to the voice of assurance. In God's Care |
