There are very few people
who realize what God would make of them
if they abandoned
themselves into his hands,
and let themselves be
formed by his grace…
~St Ignatius of Loyola
“Emotional and instinctual
satisfactions, I saw,
were really the extra
dividends of having love,
offering love, and
expressing love
appropriate to each
relation of life.”
~Bill W., January 1958,
“The Next Frontier: Emotional Sobriety”
"An arrow can only be
shot by pulling it backward.
When life is dragging you
back with difficulties,
it means it's going to launch you into
something great."
~Pablo Coelho
"You will never turn
your life and will over to anything
but a loving and mercifully
God, why would you.
Now that you know why would
you not."
~ Richard Rohr

Big Book Quote
"Once more: The
alcoholic at certain times has no effective mental
defense against the first drink. Except in a few rare cases, neither he nor any other human being can provide such a defense. His defense must come from a Higher Power." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, More About Alcoholism, pg. 43~ |

Step Twelve -
"Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried
to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all
our affairs."
Still more wonderful is the feeling that we do not have to be specially distinguished among our fellows in order to be useful and profoundly happy. Not many of us can be leaders of prominence, nor do we wish to be. Service, gladly rendered, obligations squarely met, troubles well accepted or solved with God's help, the knowledge that at home or in the world outside we are partners in a common effort, the well-understood fact that in God's sight all human beings are important, the proof that love freely given surely brings a full return, the certainty that we are no longer isolated and alone in self-constructed prisons, the surety that we need no longer be square pegs in round holes but can fit and belong in God's scheme of things--these are the permanent and legitimate satisfactions of right living for which no amount of pomp and circumstance, no heap of material possessions, could possibly be substitutes. True ambition is not what we thought it was. True ambition is the deep desire to live usefully and walk humbly under the grace of God. pp. 124-125 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day We in Alcoholics Anonymous do not try to chart the path for the human soul or try to lay out a blueprint of the working of faith, as one might plan a charity drive. We do tell the newcomer that we have renewed our faith in a Higher Power. In the telling, our faith is further renewed. We believe that faith is always close at hand, waiting for those who will listen to the heartbeat of the spirit. We believe there is a force for good in the universe and that if we link up with this force, we are carried onward to a new life. Am I in this stream of goodness? Meditation For The Day God will protect you from the forces of evil, if you will rely on Him. You can face all things through the power of God which strengthens you. Once God has set on you His stamp and seal of ownership, all His strength will serve and protect you. Remember that you are a child of the Father. Realize that the Father's help is always ready and available to all His children, so that they can face anything. God will do all that is necessary for your spiritual well-being, if you will let Him live His way. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may rely on God as I go through this day. I pray that I may feel deeply secure, no matter what happens to me. |

Spirituality
"Do not let any prejudice you may have against spiritual terms deter you from honestly asking yourself what they mean to you. At the start, this was all we needed to commence spiritual growth, to effect our first conscious relation with God as we understood Him. Afterward, we found ourselves accepting many things which then seemed entirely out of reach. That was growth, but if we wished to grow we had to begin somewhere. So we used our own conception, however limited it was." 1976 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 47 Thought to Consider . . . The solution is simple. The solution is spiritual. *~*AACRONYMS*~* S O B E R Spiritually On Beam; Everything's Right |

Daily Reflection
A TURNING POINT
A great turning point in
our lives came when we sought for
humility as something we
really wanted, rather than as
something we must have.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE
TRADITIONS, p. 75
Either the A.A. way of
life becomes one of joy or I return
to the darkness and
despair of alcoholism. Joy comes to me
when my attitude
concerning God and humility turns to one
of desire rather than of
burden. The darkness in my life
changes to radiant light
when I arrive at the realization that
being truthful and honest
in dealing with my inventory
results in my life being filled
with serenity, freedom, and
joy. Trust in my Higher
Power deepens, and the flush of
gratitude spreads through
my being. I am convinced that
being humble is being
truthful and honest in dealing with
myself and God. It is
then that humility is something I
"really want,"
rather than being "something I must have."

Pot Luck
"I
can prove the world is a miserable place."
As I approached my bottom, I
perfected the art of negative thinking. Fueled by the disease of alcoholism,
my mind searched for and found the reason my life sucked, and then proved to
me that it was never going to get better. It then went on to confirm why the
whole world was such a miserable place, what with the wars, the suffering
children, the crooked politicians, special-interest groups, and more. At the
end of my drinking, it didn’t matter if I lived or escaped the whole mess.
I didn’t have much hope that sobriety would change my life for the better. I thought that even if I did manage to stay sober, I would still have all my problems, the world would still be a mess, and I still had more proof of the negative than the positive. I acquired some invaluable tools, though, as I began working the Steps. I learned to focus on just today, just this moment, and to stay out of the future. I learned to be a positive influence in the lives of others by helping them and giving of myself. And most of all, I learned how to develop a relationship with a Higher Power. Fast-forward now to many years of recovery. The world is still a mess, I still have problems in my life, but something has changed—and the change is within me. Today, my internal landscape is based on the spiritual ideals of the Twelve Steps, and today, I seek to be a channel of God’s grace. Today, I look for the good in people, places, and things, and because of that, I have a choice of what kind of proof I gather—and I know that there is plenty of good in the world as long as I’m willing to recognize it.
