“Before the coming of faith
I had lived as an alien
in a cosmos that too often
seemed both hostile and
cruel.”
~AA Co-Founder, Bill W.,
January 1962
I can practice steadiness.
I can practice accepting
things I cannot change.
I can practice a certain
calmness, a certain coolness,
an understanding of how to
really just be content with what I have.
Understanding that there
are certain things that I may yearn for
but it may not be great for
me.
Understanding that certain
failures are going to help shape me
and make me into a better
person to
where I won't be afraid of
those failures.
~CJ McCollum
"Dreams are renewable.
No matter what our age or
condition,
there are still untapped
possibilities within us
and new beauty waiting to
be born."
~Dale Turner
Your
obsessive-compulsive mind is not your friend,
if
it was, it would stop when you asked it.

Big Book Quote
"Those of us who
have spent much time in the world of spiritual make-believe have eventually
seen the childishness of it. This dream world has been replaced by a great
sense of purpose, accompanied by a growing consciousness of the power of God
in our lives. We have come to believe He would like us to keep our heads in
the clouds with Him,
but that our feet ought to be firmly planted on earth. That is where our fellow travelers are, and that is where our work must be done. These are the realities for us. We have found nothing incompatible between a powerful spiritual experience and a life of sane and happy usefulness."

12&12
Step Twelve - "Having had a spiritual awakening as the
result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to
practice these principles in all our affairs."
Our basic troubles are the same as everyone else's, but when an honest effort is made "to practice these principles in all our affairs," well-grounded A.A.'s seem to have the ability, by God's grace, to take these troubles in stride and turn them into demonstrations of faith. We have seen A.A.'s suffer lingering and fatal illness with little complaint, and often in good cheer. We have sometimes seen families broken apart by misunderstanding, tensions, or actual infidelity, who are reunited by the A.A. way of life. p. 114 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The
Day
But even faith is not the whole story. There must be service. We must give this thing away if we want to keep it. The Dead Sea has no outlet and it is stagnant and full of salt. The Sea of Galilee is clear and clean and blue, as the Jordan River carries it out to irrigate the desert. To be of service to other people makes our lives worth living. Does service to others give me a real purpose in life? Meditation For The Day Seek God early in the day, before He gets crowded out by life's problems, difficulties, or pleasures. In that early quiet time gain a calm, strong confidence in the goodness and purpose in the universe. Do not seek God only when the world's struggles prove too much and too many for you to bear or face alone. Seek God early, when you can have a consciousness of God's spirit in the world. People often only seek God when their difficulties are too great to be surmounted in any other way, forgetting that if they sought God's companionship before they need it, many of their difficulties would never arise. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may not let God be crowded out by the hurly-burly of life. I pray that I may seek God early and often. |

Freedom
"So far, upon the total problem of several million actual and potential alcoholics in the world, we have made only a scratch. In all probability, we shall never be able to touch more than a fair fraction of the alcohol problem in all its ramifications. Upon therapy for the alcoholic himself, we surely have no monopoly. Yet it is our great hope that all those who have as yet found no answer may begin to find one in the pages of this book and will presently join us on the highroad to a new freedom."

Daily Reflection
OPEN-MINDEDNESS
We have found that God
does not make too hard terms with
those who seek Him. To
us, the realm of spirit is broad,
roomy, all inclusive,
never exclusive or forbidding to those
who earnestly seek. It is
open, we believe, to all men.
AS BILL SEES IT, p. 7
Open-mindedness to
concepts of a Higher Power can open
doors to the spirit.
Often I find the human spirit in various
dogmas and faiths. I can
be spiritual in the sharing of
myself. The sharing of
self joins me to the human race and
brings me closer to God,
as I understand Him.

Pot Luck
We are all special cases.
~
Albert Camus
We spend so much time and
energy comparing ourselves to others and far too frequently end up feeling
inferior. Perhaps someone at works more articulate than we are or an
acquaintance always seems more striking and self assured. And most of us know
couples who seem to have the perfect relationship while we continue to
struggle in ours or have no significant other.
On occasion we might even feel
superior to some people - like the gruff man ahead of us in the line at the
bank or the rude cashier at the grocery store. But in all cases the
moment we compare and thus create a separation between ourselves and others,
we deny the blessing of God’s all encompassing plan for each
of
us.
We are all one in God. When we
realize our connection to one another, we learn our task is to care for each
other rather than artificially set ourselves apart.
I will look around me carefully
today and notice how I am connected to others rather than how I am separate.
