“AA’s message promises
healing and wholeness for
any alcoholic
who will pay the price.
The price is simply to
accept
the help that will save our
lives.”
~Grapevine: Riverside,
Illinois, August 1977
"The difficulty lies
not so much in developing new ideas
as in escaping from old
ones."
~John Maynard Keynes
Each day is a little life:
every waking and rising a
little birth,
every fresh morning a
little youth,
every going to rest and
sleep a little death.
~Arthur Schopenhauer
“You don’t have a soul.
You are a soul.
You have a body.”

Big Book Quote
"Actually, we were fooling ourselves, for deep down in every
man,
woman, and child, is the fundamental idea of God. It may be obscured by calamity, by pomp, by worship of other things, but in some form or other it is there. For faith in a Power greater than ourselves, and miraculous demonstrations of that power in human lives, are facts as old as man himself." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, We Agnostics, pg. 55~ |

Tradition Nine - "A.A., as such, ought never be organized;
but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those
they serve."
Well, let's see. Did anyone ever hear of a nation, a church, a political party, even a benevolent association that had no membership rules? Did anyone ever hear of a society which couldn't somehow discipline its members and enforce obedience to necessary rules and regulations? Doesn't nearly every society on earth give authority to some of its members to impose obedience upon the rest and to punish or expel offenders? Therefore, every nation, in fact every form of society, has to be a government administered by human beings. Power to direct or govern is the essence of organization everywhere. p. 172 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The
Day
Today, let us begin a short study of The Twelve Suggested Steps of A.A. These Twelve Suggested Steps seem to embody five principles. The first step is the membership requirement step. The second, third, and eleventh steps are the spiritual steps of the program. The fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and tenth steps are the personal inventory steps. The eighth and ninth steps are the restitution steps. The twelfth step is the passing on of the program, or helping others, step. So the five principles are membership requirement, spiritual basis, personal inventory, restitution, and helping others. Have I made all these steps a part of me? Meditation For The Day We seem to live not only in time but also in eternity. If we abide with God and He abides with us, we may bring forth spiritual fruit which will last for eternity. If we live with God, our lives can flow as some calm river through the dry land of earth. It can cause the trees and flowers of the spiritual life--love and service--to spring forth and yield abundantly. Spiritual work may be done for eternity, not just for now. Even here on earth we can live as though our real lives were eternal. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may try to make my life like a cool river in a thirsty land. I pray that I may give freely to all who ask my help. |

Daily Thought
^*^*^*^*^ (\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Step One "No other kind of bankruptcy is like this one. Alcohol, now becomes the rapacious creditor, bleeds us all of self-sufficiency and all will to resist its demands. Once this stark fact is accepted, our bankruptcy as going human concerns is complete. But upon entering A.A. we soon take quite another view of this absolute humiliation. We perceive that only through utter defeat are we able to take our first steps toward liberation and strength. Our admissions of personal powerlessness finally turn out to be firm bedrock upon which happy and purposeful lives may be built." 1952 AAWS Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions p. 21 Thought to Consider . . . Once we clear a hurdle, it doesn't seem so high.

Daily Reflection
WE STAND—OR
FALL—TOGETHER
. . . no society of men and
women ever had a more urgent
need for continuous
effectiveness and permanent unity. We
alcoholics see that we must
work together and hang
together, else most of us will
finally die alone.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p.
562
Just as the Twelve Steps of
A.A. are written in a specific
sequence for a reason, so
it is with the Twelve Traditions.
The First Step and the
First Tradition attempt to instill in
me enough humility to allow
me a chance at survival.
Together they are the basic
foundation upon which the
Steps and Traditions that
follow are built. It is a process of
ego deflation which allows
me to grow as an individual
through the Steps, and as a
contributing member of a group
through the Traditions.
Full acceptance of the First
Tradition allows me to set
aside personal ambitions, fears
and anger when they are in
conflict with the common good,
thus permitting me to work
with others for our mutual
survival. Without Tradition
One I stand little chance of
maintaining the unity
required to work with others
effectively, and I also
stand to lose the remaining
Traditions, the Fellowship,
and my life.

Pot Luck
An error doesn't become a mistake
until you refuse to correct it…Orlando A. Battista
In our lives, we have always been
drawn to extremes. If it isn't white, it must be black.
If a little bit feels good, we take
a lot.
If we are going to do something,
only perfection is good enough.
So…if we don't win, we lose, and if
we can't do it perfectly, we feel like a failure.
In Our Spiritual Program of Action,
we learn how to live in a new way…and thank GOOD GOD…it doesn't just happen
all at once.
So…we go to meetings on a regular
basis…we get a sponsor…we pray and meditate…we read and study our Big Book
and 12 and 12…we take our Steps…we learn our Traditions and our Concepts of
Service…we become active members in Recovery…we form new friends and
relationships and strengthen old relationships…we learn…and when we think we
know…we find out something new about ourselves…something wonderful happens…a
whole new Patti Ann appears…WOW…when did that happen…
Today…just today Dear GOOD GOD…
when I begin to understand my errors…my misjudgments…my mistakes…and agree to
learn from them…I become stronger…and kinder than I have ever been…thank you,
Dear GOOD GOD…for my precious gifts…
LOVE…above all things,
Patti Locascio
