Free will is not the
liberty to do what one likes, but the power of doing whatever one sees ought
to be done, even in the very face of otherwise overwhelming impulses. There lies freedom
indeed. -George MacDonald In this world it is not
what we take up, but what we give up, that makes us
rich. -Henry Ward Beecher Take time to be quiet. This is something that we
don't do enough in this busy world of ours. We rush, rush, rush, and we
are constantly listening to noise all around us. The human heart was meant
for times of quiet, to peer deep within. It is when we do this that
our hearts are set free to soar and take flight on
the wings of our own dreams! ~Jim Rohn Humanity can only improve
as people improve. When you have improved your
life, you can inspire those
around you to want to improve their lives.
Remember that a few in
harmony with God’s will are more powerful than
multitudes out of harmony. -Peace Pilgrim |
Big Book Quote The door opened and
he stood there, fresh-skinned and glowing. There was something about his
eyes. He was inexplicably different. What had happened? P9 |

Twenty-Four Hours A.A. Thought For The Day
|
Daily Thought ^*^*^*^*^ |
Daily Reflection FREEDOM FROM "KING
ALCOHOL" . . . let us not suppose
even for an instant that we are not under constraint. . . . Our
former tyrant, King Alcohol, always stands ready again
to clutch us to him Therefore, freedom from alcohol is the
great "must" that has to be achieved, else we go mad or
die. AS BILL SEES IT, p. 134 When drinking, I lived in
spiritual, emotional, and sometimes, physical
confinement. I had constructed my prison with bars of
self-will and self-indulgence, from which I could not escape.
Occasional dry spells that seemed to promise freedom
would turn out to be little more than hopes of a reprieve.
True escape required a willingness to follow
whatever right actions were needed to turn the lock. With that
willingness and action, both the lock and the bars themselves
opened for me. Continued willingness and action keep
me free—in a kind of extended daily probation—that need
never end. |
Pot Luck "Help God’s kids do what
they need to have done”. Charity, today’s reading
explains, is another word for love. The Thought for the Day defines
love, or charity, as an unselfish, outgoing desire to help other people. For my purposes, I amend that
definition to, "BEHAVING as one who has an unselfish, outgoing desire to
help other people". For half my life I was absolutely
certain that whether or not I loved was determined by how I felt. For many
years now I have been equally convinced that I am only as loving as I behave,
and that the value of my loving actions is neither enhanced nor diminished by
my thoughts, feelings or beliefs. Action is love and love is
action. To claim to love and not behave
lovingly is empty hypocrisy. On the other hand, the power of
loving behavior is not diminished by the occasional waning of our loving
feelings. Part of The Magic is that the
more lovingly I behave, the more feelings of love I will enjoy. I love you all. ~Don Major
