A clear light seems to fall upon us all – when we open our eyes.

Since our blindness is caused by our own defects,

we must first deeply realize what they are.

Constructive meditation is the first requirement

for each new step in our spiritual growth.

~As Bill Sees It, pg. 10 Out Of The Dark

One of the things I love about God's Word

“It is very possible that I might not be

the most suitable person to sponsor a particular new member.

I might be unsuited by my personality,

by my education (or lack of education) or by my profession.

For the same reasons I might be just the one to sponsor someone else.”

~Lawton, Okla., February 1955, From: “Sponsorship”, AA Grapevine

"I could not say I believe.

I know!

I have had the experience of being gripped

by something that is stronger than myself,

something that people call God."

Foreword

Everywhere there arose threatening questions of membership, money, personal relations, public relations, management of groups, clubs, and scores of other perplexities. It was out of this vast welter of explosive experience that A.A.'s Twelve Traditions took form and were first published in 1946 and later confirmed at A.A.'s First International Convention, held at Cleveland in 1950. The Tradition section of this volume portrays in some detail the experience which finally produced the Twelve Traditions and so gave A.A. its present form, substance, and unity.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

When you come into an A.A. meeting, you're not just
coming into a meeting, you're coming into a new life.
I'm always impressed by the change I see in people after
they've been in A.A. for a while. I sometimes take an
inventory of myself, to see whether I have changed and if
so, in what way. Before I met A.A., I was very selfish. I
wanted my own way in everything. I don't believe I ever
grew up. When things went wrong, I sulked like a spoiled
child and often went out and got drunk. Am I still all get
and no give?

Meditation For The Day

There are two things we must have if we are going to change
our way of life. One is faith, the confidence in things
unseen, that fundamental goodness and purpose in the
universe. The other is obedience, that is living according
to our faith, living each day as we believe God wants us to
live, with gratitude, humility, honesty, purity,
unselfishness and love. Faith and obedience, these two,
will give us all the strength we need to overcome sin and
temptation and to live a new and more abundant life.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may have more faith and obedience. I pray that
I may live a more abundant life as a result of these things.

Service

"Service, gladly rendered, obligations squarely met, troubles well accepted or solved with God's help, the knowledge that at home or in the world outside we are partners in a common effort, the well-understood fact that in God's sight all human beings are important, the proof that love freely given surely brings a full return, the certainty that we are no longer isolated and alone in self-constructed prisons, the surety that we need no longer be square pegs in round holes but can fit and belong in God's scheme of things - these are the permanent and legitimate satisfactions of right living for which no amount of pomp and circumstance, no heap of material possessions, could possibly be substitutes."
c. 1952 AAWS
Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 124

Thought to Consider . . .

Service is spirituality in action.

Daily Reflection

EQUALITY

Our membership ought to include all who suffer from

alcoholism Hence we may refuse none who wish to recover.

Nor ought A.A. membership ever depend upon money or

conformity. Any two or three alcoholics gathered together

for sobriety may call themselves an A.A. group, provided

that, as a group, they have no other affiliation.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 565

Prior to A.A., I often felt that I didn't "fit in" with the

people around me. Usually "they" had more/ less money

than I did, and my points of view didn't jibe with "theirs."

The amount of prejudice I had experienced in society only

proved to me just how phony some self-righteous people

were. After joining A. A., I found the way of life I had been

searching for. In A.A. no member is better than any other

member; we're just alcoholics trying to recover from

alcoholism.

Pot Luck

Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life.

Rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise,

God, whose very own you are, will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it, God will carry you in his arms.
Do not fear what may happen tomorrow.

The same understanding Father who cares for you today will take care of you then and every day.

He will either shield you from suffering or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

Committee Consideration

from the 73rd General Service Conference

In response to a Committee Consideration from the 73rd General Service Conference regarding any possible future changes to literature written by A.A.’s founders, that committee agreed it would be beneficial to gather shared experience from the Fellowship regarding this topic.
