“By 1937, some of us realized that AA needed a standard
literature. There would have to be a book ... Well, we did quarrel violently
over the preparation and distribution of that book. In fact, it took five
years for the clamor to die down. Should any AAs dream that the old-timers
who put the book together went about in serene meditation and white robes,
then they had best forget it.” ~AA Co-Founder, Bill W., November 1951 Imagination was given to man to compensate him for what he is
not; a sense of humor to console him for what he is. “Happiness is a by-product – the extra dividend of giving without any demand for a return.” ~AA Co-Founder, Bill W., January 1958, “The Next Frontier:
Emotional Sobriety”, The Language of the Heart “If we can stop this frantic drive to prove that we are
remarkable people, it is quite likely that we will settle down and really enjoy whatever life has to offer us.” ~New York, N.Y., August 1948 |

DAILY
REFLECTIONS "DEEP
DOWN WITHIN US" We found
the Great Reality deep down within us. In the last analysis
it is only there that He may be found. . . . search diligently
within yourself. . . . With this attitude you cannot fail.
The consciousness of your belief is sure to come to you. ALCOHOLICS
ANONYMOUS, p. 55 It was out
of the depths of loneliness, depression and despair
that I sought the help of A.A. As I recovered and began to
face the emptiness and ruin of my life, I began to open myself
to the possibility of the healing that recovery offers
through the A.A. program. By coining to meetings, staying
sober, and taking the Steps, I had the opportunity to listen with
increasing attentiveness to the depths of my soul. Daily
I waited, in hope and gratitude, for that sure belief and
steadfast love I had longed for in my life. In this process, I
met my God, as I understand Him. |

POT LUCK "Humility is not
thinking less about yourself, but rather thinking about yourself less." I
used to look down on people who were humble. They won’t ever get anywhere, I
used to think. It’s a dog-eat-dog world, and if I wanted to succeed I had to
be aggressive and take the things I wanted. When I combined alcohol with this
attitude, my ego exploded, and my thirst for both success and drink was
insatiable. Soon I was a pariah, shunned even by some of my closest friends.
