“We've resolved never to allow either money or the management of our necessary affairs to obscure our spiritual aims.” AA Co-Founder, Bill W., November 1950 In humility alone lies true greatness, and knowledge and wisdom are profitable only in so far as our lives are governed by them. -Nicholas of Cusa Words are powerful tools. Use them to help and not hurt. --Cited in BITS & PIECES "We're all looking at the people around us, the people who have gone before us who have succeeded in recovery and have long-term
sobriety as they are an illustration for us of how good it can
be." ~ ~Scott Stevens |

BIG BOOK QUOTE When we became alcoholics, crushed by a self-imposed crisis we
could not postpone or evade, we had to fearlessly face the proposition that
either God is everything or else He is nothing. God either is, or He isn't.
What was our choice to be? P53 |

12&12 Step Two - "Came to believe
that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity." “That,” agrees the sponsor, “is a
very good question indeed. I think I can tell you exactly how to relax. You
won’t have to work very hard, either. Listen, if you will, to these three
statements. First, Alcoholics Anonymous does not demand that you believe
anything. All of its twelve Steps are but suggestions. Second, to get sober
and stay soberr, you don’t have to swallow all of Step Two right now. Looking
back, I find that I took it piecemeal myself. Third, all you really need is a
truly open mind. Just resign from the debating society and quit bothering
yourself with such deep questions as whether it was the chicken or the egg
that came first. Again, I say, all you need is the open mind.” p.26 |

DAILY
REFLECTIONS THE
UPWARD PATH Here are
the steps we took. . . . ALCOHOLICS
ANONYMOUS, p. 59 These
are the words that lead into the Twelve Steps. In their
direct simplicity they sweep aside all psychological and
philosophical considerations about the lightness of the Steps.
They describe what I did: I took the Steps and sobriety
was the result. These words do not imply that I should
walk the well-trodden path of those who went before,
but rather that there is a way for me to become sober
and that it is a way I shall have to find. It is a new path,
one that leads to infinite light at the top of the mountain.
The Steps advise me about the footholds that are safe and
about chasms to avoid. They provide me with the tools I
need during the many parts of the solitary journey of my soul.
When I speak of this journey, I share my experience,
strength and hope with others. |

POT LUCK Sometimes I'm
awfully impressed by fools.
~Kelly Q. The man who said this memorable
line had once believed he might feel better about himself if only he owned
more. As an adult child, he felt he had missed out on something and somehow
got the idea he could achieve peace by acquisition. So he started to collect
things like boats, expensive new cars, better clothes, and so on. His models
were people who had all the toys he was now collecting. He listened to them,
followed them around, and imitated them. They were his heroes. Luckily, it didn't take him too long to discover the truth. As
he got to know these people, he saw they were no happier because of what they
had. One or two of them were happy, but their happiness didn't depend on what
they had. The rest of them, he learned, were fools who mindlessly looked for
joy and meaning outside themselves. This man's "recovery by acquisition" experiment was
only a slight detour, and he is back on the road to healthy thinking. He is no fool. Today, I thank God for peace and happiness and remember these
riches are inside, not outside, me. Today's reading is from the book Days of
Healing, Days of Joy: Daily Meditations for Adult Children* |
