"I find it incredibly amazing how at every sunset,

the sky is a different shade.

No cloud is ever in the same place.

Each day is a new masterpiece.

A new wonder. A new memory."

~Sanober Khan

When I stay in the NOW,

everything's always okay.

--Joan T.

Be grateful for spiritual community.

None of us are smart enough or

sufficiently sensitive to notice every subtle sign

that something is amiss before it becomes a large problem.

Through community,

through those who hold the energy that keeps us awake,

we can tune in and ask God for guidance.

No individual knows everything, but God does.

Spiritual community reminds us that we are connected.

--Mary Manin Morrissey

Courage, it would seem,

is nothing less than the power to overcome

danger, misfortune, fear, injustice,

while continuing to affirm inwardly

that life with all its sorrows is good;

that everything is meaningful

even if in a sense beyond our understanding;

and that there is always tomorrow.

--Dorothy Thompson

BIG BOOK QUOTE

If the owner of the business is to be successful, he cannot fool himself about values. We did exactly the same thing with our lives. We took stock honestly.

Foreword

This starting expansion brought with it very severe growing pains. Proof that alcoholics could recover had been made. But it was by no means sure that such great numbers of yet erratic people could live and work together with harmony and good effect.

pp. 17-18

Twenty-Four Hours

 A.A. Thought For The Day

A lot of well-meaning people treat alcoholics like the priest
and the Levite. They pass by on the other side by scorning
them and telling them what low people they are, with no
willpower. Whereas, they really have fallen for alcohol, in
the same way as the man in the story fell among robbers. And
the member of A.A. who is working with others is like the
Good Samaritan. Am I moved with compassion? Do I take care
of another alcoholic whenever I can?

Meditation For The Day

I must constantly live in preparation for something better to
come. All of life is a preparation for something better. I must
anticipate the morning to come. I must feel, in the night of
sorrow, that understanding joy that tells of confident
expectation of better things to come. "Sorrow may endure for
a night, but joy cometh in the morning." Know that God has
something better in store for you, as long as you are making
yourself ready for it. All your existence in this world is a
training for a better life to come.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that when life is over, I will return to an eternal,
spaceless life with God. I pray that I may make this life a
preparation for a better life to come.

Entirely Ready

I
t is plain for everybody to see that each sober A.A. member has been granted a release from this very obstinate and fatal obsession. So in a very complete and literal way, all A.A.'s have "become entirely ready" to have God remove the mania for alcohol from their lives. And God has proceeded to do just that.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

. . . AND FORGIVE

Under very trying conditions I have had, again and again,

to forgive others—also myself

AS BILL SEES IT, p. 268

Forgiveness of self and forgiveness of others are just two

currents in the same river, both hindered or shut off

completely by the dam of resentment. Once that dam is

lifted, both currents can flow. The Steps of A.A. allow me

to see how resentment has built up and subsequently

blocked off this flow in my life. The Steps provide a way

by which my resentments may—by the grace of God as I

understand Him— be lifted. It is as a result of this solution

that I can find the necessary grace which enables me to forgive

myself and others.

POT LUCK

Walk In Dry Places

Be still, for a while, anyhow.

God’s will for us.

The bible reminds us: “Be still, and know that I am God.” What does this say to the recovering alcoholic who is struggling against a tidal wave of problems?

It must be a reminder that our true place and right work is part of a great purpose, though we may still not know where we fit into the larger plan. We can know, however, that God’s plan will include peaceful actions, just and moral solutions, and results that are wholly beneficial to all concerned.

One does not have to be a theologian to decide that staying sober is part of God’s will for us. That’s why we can expect the support of Higher Power at all times, even when we feel fearful and abused.

Aside from staying sober, each of us will have individual work and responsibilities in life. We should be careful not to measure anyone’s success– including our own– against worldly standards. If God is in charge, wherever we are and whatever we happen to be doing can a part of the divine will.

In keeping sober today, I’ll know that I’m carrying out God’s will. I’ll also be open to unexpected opportunities to carry out God’s directions.
