The only calibration that counts is how much heart people
invest, how much they ignore their fears of being hurt or caught out
or humiliated. And the only thing people regret is that they didn't live
boldly enough, that they didn't invest enough heart, didn't love enough. Nothing else really counts at all. -Ted Hughes It is essential that our love be liberating, not
possessive. We must at all times give those we love the freedom to be
themselves. Love affirms the other
as other. Compassion is not religious business, it is human business; it is not luxury, it is
essential for our own peace and mental stability; it is essential for human survival. Until we extend our circle of compassionto all living things, We will not find peace. |

REFLECTIONS WE FORGIVE . . . Often it was while working on this Step with
our sponsors or spiritual advisers that we first felt truly
able to forgive others, no matter how deeply we felt hey had
wronged us. Our moral inventory had persuaded us that
all-round forgiveness was desirable, but it was only when
we resolutely tackled Step Five hat we inwardly knew we'd be able to receive forgiveness and give it, too. TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 58 What a great feeling forgiveness is! What a
revelation about my emotional, psychological and spiritual
nature. All it takes is willingness to forgive; 5od
will do the rest. |

POT LUCK Keep It Simple A man who has committed a
mistake and doesn’t correct it is committing another
mistake. -Confucius Step Ten tell us that when we are wrong, we must
“promptly” admit it. We aren’t used to admitting our mistakes. We blame
others and make up excuses. This is called denial. Denial is bad for two reasons. First, it keeps us from
learning from our mistakes, so we keep on making them. Second, we don’t
listen to others, so we close ourselves off and become lonely. What a relief it is to admit our wrongs! We don’t have
to keep trying to do things the hard way. We can learn new ways to think and
act that will work better for us. We can let other people be our teachers. Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me recognize when
I’m in the wrong, so I can see the changes I need to make. Action for the Day: Today, If I disagree with someone,
I’ll promptly admit when I’m wrong. If I’m right, I’ll be gentle. I don’t
have to prove anything. |
