We should never allow the things we do not understand

has provided clear understanding.

I always thought that posting our locations with our anniversaries was a great way to show newcomers that AA is all over the world. So I wish you would send your locations with your anniversary dates. We don't celebrate for our own benefit.

We celebrate anniversaries to show the program works.

If we add our locations we get to show

that AA works EVERYWHERE!

12&12

There is, too, a rising interest in the Twelve Traditions of Alcoholics Anonymous. Students of human relations are beginning to wonder how and why A.A. functions as a society. Why is it, they ask, that in A.A. no member can be set in personal authority over another, that nothing like a central government can anywhere be seen? How can a set of traditional principles, having no legal force at all, hold the Fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous in unity and effectiveness? The second section of this volume, though designed for A.A.'s membership, will give such inquirers an inside view of A.A. never before possible.

p. 16

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

 A.A. Thought For The Day

The A.A. program is one of faith, hope, and charity. It's a

program of hope because when new members come into A.A., the first thing they get is hope. They hear older members tell how they had been through the same kind of he!! that they have and how they found the way out through A.A. And this gives them hope that if others can do it, they can do it. Is hope still strong in me?

Meditation For The Day

The rule of God's kingdom is perfect order, perfect harmony, perfect supply, perfect love, perfect honesty, perfect obedience. There is no discord in God's kingdom, only some things still unconquered in God's children. The difficulties of life are caused by disharmony in the individual man or woman. People lack power because they lack harmony with God and with each

other. They think that God fails because power is not manifested in their lives. God does not fail. People fail because they are out of harmony with Him.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may be in harmony with God and with other people. I pray that this harmony will result in strength and success.

Prayer

"In A.A. we have found that the actual good results of prayer are beyond question. They are matters of knowledge and experience. All those who have persisted have found strength not ordinarily their own. They have found wisdom beyond their usual capability. And they have increasingly found a peace of mind which can stand firm in the face of difficult circumstances."

Bill W., Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 104

As Bill Sees It, p. 127

Thought to Consider . . .

Trying to pray is praying.

DAILY REFLECTION

GROUP AUTONOMY

Some may think that we have carried the principle of group

autonomy to extremes. For example, in its original "long

form," Tradition Four declares: "Any two or three gathered

together for sobriety may call themselves an A.A. group,

provided that as a group they have no other affiliation. "* .

. . But this ultra-liberty is not so risky as it looks.

A.A. COMES OF AGE PP 104-05

As an active alcoholic, I abused every liberty that life

afforded. How could A.A. expect me to respect the "ultraliberty"

bestowed by Tradition Four? Learning respect has

become a lifetime job.

A.A. has made me fully accept the necessity of discipline

and that, if I do not assert it from within, then I will pay for

it. This applies to groups too. Tradition Four points me in a

spiritual direction, in spite of my alcoholic inclinations.

* This is a misquote; Bill quoted the Third Tradition, but was referring to

Tradition Four.

POT LUCK

The shy man usually finds that he has been shy without cause, and that, in practice, no one takes the slightest notice of him.

~Robert Lynd

We sometimes feel self-conscious in front of others. It may be that we've just gotten braces or a new haircut and we're afraid everyone will stare at us. We stop smiling and talk with our heads bowed. Many people have worn braces and many more will. We need not be ashamed just because we feel different. By beginning to smile again we will see how many people really didn't notice our braces, or our haircuts, or anything but what they see inside us.

All we need to do is lift our heads and smile. We will be amazed to find how little even our best friends notice about the externals, the things that don't really matter. Who we are is far more noticeable and far more important than what we look like. A smile at shy times helps us accept ourselves as others do.

What makes me shy?
