I’ve learned that to ignore the facts does not change the
facts. -unattributed “I believe most of us would agree that the general idea of anonymity is sound, because it encourages alcoholics and the families of
alcoholics to approach us for help. Still fearful of being stigmatized, they regard our anonymity as an assurance their problems will be kept confidential; that the alcoholic skeleton in the family closet will not wander in the streets.” AA Co-Founder, Bill W., March 1946 “Intimacy happens when we reveal and expose our insides, and this is always scary. We never know if the other will receive what is exposed, will respect it, or will run quickly in the other direction.” Fr. Richard Rohr "There is no thrill quite like doing something you didn’t know you could." |

DAILY
REFLECTIONS HAPPINESS
IS NOT THE POINT / don't
think happiness or unhappiness is the point. How do we meet
the problems we face? How do we best learn from them and
transmit what we have learned to others, if they would
receive the knowledge? AS BILL SEES
IT, p. 306 In my search
"to be happy," I changed jobs, married and divorced,
took geographical cures, and ran myself into debt—financially,
emotionally and spiritually. In A.A., I'm learning to
grow up. Instead of demanding that people, places and
things make me happy, I can ask God for selfacceptance. When a
problem overwhelms me, A.A.'s Twelve Steps
will help me grow through the pain. The knowledge I
gain can be a gift to others who suffer with the same problem.
As Bill said, "When pain comes, we are expected to
learn from it willingly, and help others to learn. When
happiness comes, we accept it as a gift, and thank God for
it." (As Bill Sees It, p. 306) |

POT LUCK God is within me through life's
challenges. The words God and I are one remind me I am always enfolded in
the protecting love of God. If I am facing a difficult decision or
experiencing trepidation or fear, I pause for a moment and repeat, God and I
are one. The act of speaking the words aloud makes them feel more powerful to
me. Oneness with God does not mean that life has no challenges,
but it does mean I don't face my challenges alone. It means through the
presence of God within, I am divinely guided on a path of spiritual security
and safety. Today I give thanks for the protecting love of God that
enfolds and surrounds me. Even when I may feel alone, God is with and within
me. I repeat, God and I are one. This is the truth that sustains me in good
times and difficult ones. |
