Your Daily Reprieve for Saturday April 11,
2026 From Waynesville, NC |

You should remember that though another may have more money,
beauty, and brains than you, when it comes to the rarer spiritual values such
as charity, self-sacrifice, honor, nobility of heart, you have an equal
chance with everyone to be the most beloved and honored of all
people. -Archibald Rutledge “There are occasions for me when I am not thinking about myself and my own reactions to events or circumstances, but have my attention fully occupied by tasks, ideas, scenes,
or another person. And when I recollect these occasions, I find that they have been my happiest.” ~Saratoga, California, May 1973 "We live by admiration, hope and love."

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
|
|
Daily Thought ^*^*^*^*^ Change How many of us would presume to declare, "Well, I'm sober,
and I'm happy. What more can I want, or do? I'm fine the way I am." We
know that the price of such self-satisfaction is an inevitable backslide,
punctuated at some point by a very rude awakening. We have to grow or else
deteriorate. For us, the status quo can only be for today, never for
tomorrow. Change we must; we cannot stand still. Bill W., April 1961

DAILY
REFLECTIONS A WORD TO
DROP: "BLAME" To see how
erratic emotions victimized us often took a long time. We
could perceive them quickly in others, but only slowly in
ourselves First of all, we had to admit that we had many of
these defects, even though such disclosures were painful
and humiliating. Where other people were concerned,
we had to drop the word "blame" from our speech and
thought TWELVE STEPS
AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 47 When I did my
Fourth Step, following the Big Book guidelines, I
noticed that my grudge list was filled with my prejudices
and my blaming others for my not being able to succeed and
to live up to my potential. I also discovered I felt
different because I was black. As I continued to work on the Step,
I learned that I always had drunk to rid myself of those
feelings. It was only when I sobered up and worked on my
inventory, that I could no longer blame anyone. |

POT LUCK Desiderata GO PLACIDLY amid the noise and the
haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible,
without surrender, be on good terms with all persons Speak your truth quietly and
clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too
have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you
may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser
persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as
your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real
possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business
affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to
what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere
life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not
feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all
aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the
years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to
shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark
imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be
gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees
and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to
you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace
with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and
aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With
all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be
cheerful. Strive to be happy. By Max Ehrmann © 1927 Original text "Desiderata" is an early
1920s prose poem by the American writer Max Ehrmann. |
