"You can choose your choices but you can’t choose your consequences"

~Heard at Bristol's Lunch Bunch meeting ... shared by Philip L.

"When you surrender to what is and so become fully present,

the past ceases to have any power. You do not need it anymore.

Presence is the key.Now is the key."

~Eckhart Tolle

“I have learned how to place principles before personalities,

begun to understand that it’s okay for me to be wrong,

and that it is also all right for me to allow others to be wrong and to make mistakes. Learning to let go is a huge part of service work on all levels.”

~ Cleveland, Ohio, February 2010

“It’s not the burdens of everyday that drive men mad.

It is the regret of yesterday and the fear of tomorrow.

Regret and fear are twin thieves that rob us of today.”

Tradition Eleven - "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films."

WITHOUT its legions of well-wishers, A.A. could never have grown as it has. Throughout the world, immense and favorable publicity of every description has been the principal means of bringing alcoholics into our Fellowship. In A.A. offices, clubs, and homes, telephones ring constantly. One voice says, "I read a piece in the newspapers . . ."; another, "We heard a radio program . . ."; and still another, "We saw a moving picture . . ." or "We something about A.A. on television. . . ." It is no exaggeration to say that half of A.A.'s membership has been led to us through channels like these.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

When I was drinking, I was absolutely selfish, I thought
of myself first, last, and always. The universe revolved
around me at the center. When I woke up in the morning
with a hangover, my only thought was how terrible I felt
and about what I could do to make myself feel better. And
the only thing I could think of was more liquor. To quit
was impossible. I couldn't see beyond myself and my own
need for another drink. Can I now look out and beyond my
own selfishness?

Meditation For The Day

Remember that the first quality of greatness is service.
In a way, God is the greatest servant of all, because He
is always waiting for us to call on Him to help us in all
good endeavors. His strength is always available to us,
but we must ask it of Him through our own free will. It
is a free gift, but we must sincerely seek for it. A
life of service is the finest life we can live. We are
here on earth to serve others. That is the beginning and
the end of our real worth.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may cooperate with God in all good things.
I pray that I may serve God and others and so lead a
useful and happy life.

Guidance

Walk day by day in the path of spiritual progress. If you persist, remarkable things will happen. When we look back, we realize the things which came to us when we put ourselves in God's hands, were better than anything we could have planned. Follow the dictates of a Higher Power and you will presently live in a new and wonderful world, no matter what your present circumstances!

DAILY REFLECTIONS

ACCEPTING OUR HUMANNESS

We finally saw that the inventory should be ours, not the

other man's So we admitted our wrongs honestly and

became willing to set these matters straight.

AS BILL SEES IT, p. 222

Why is it that the alcoholic is so unwilling to accept

responsibility? I used to drink because of the things that

other people did to me. Once I came to A.A. I was told to

look at where I had been wrong. What did I have to do with

all these different matters? When I simply accepted that I

had a part in them, I was able to put it on paper and see it

for what it was —humanness. I am not expected to be

perfect! I have made errors before and I will make them

again. To be honest about them allows me to accept

them—and myself—and those with whom I had the

differences; from there, recovery is just a short distance

ahead.

POT LUCK

A Day At A Time

Reflection For The Day

When I’m motivated by pride — by bondage of self — I become partly or even wholly blind to my liabilities and shortcomings.  At that point, the last thing I need is comfort. Instead, I  need an understanding friend in The Program — one who knows “where I’m at” — a friend who’ll unhesitatingly chop a hole through the wall my ego has built so that the light of reason can once again shine through. Do I take time to review my progress, to spot-check myself on a daily basis, and to promptly try to remedy my wrongs?

Today I Pray

God I pray that the group — or just one friend — will be honest enough to see my slippery  manifestations of pride and brave enough to tell me about them.

My self-esteem was starved for so long, that with my first successes in The Program, it may swell to the gross proportions of self-satisfaction.

May a view from outside myself give me a true picture of how I am handling the triumph of my sobriety — with humility or with pride.

Today I Will Remember

Self-esteem or self-satisfaction?
