Life is a moment-to-moment happening;

any attempt to possess it, save it, or store it,

is to lose the present moment.

- A Spiritual Warrior

"Don't look back on happiness,

or dream of it in the future.

You are only sure of today;

do not let yourself be cheated out of it."

--Henry Ward Beecher

"Let us not look back in anger or forward in fear,

but look around in awareness."

~James Thurber

“My job is to achieve enough humility

to see myself in others and

to accept both myself and others, by identifying.

The willingness to make amends will grow from this act of love.”

Tradition Eight - "Alcoholics Anonymous should remain forever nonprofessional, but our service centers may employ special workers."

At last, however, a plain line of cleavage could be seen between professionalism and nonprofessionalism. When we had agreed that the Twelfth Step couldn't be sold for money, we had been wise. But when we had declared that our Fellowship couldn't hire service workers nor could any A.A. member carry our knowledge into other fields, we were taking the counsel of fear, fear which today has been largely dispelled in the light of experience.

p. 167

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

We also strengthen our faith by working with other
alcoholics and finding that we can do nothing ourselves
to help them, except to tell them our own story of how
we found the way out. If the person is helped, it's by
the grace of God and not by what we do or say. Our own
faith is strengthened when we see another alcoholic find
sobriety by turning to God. And finally we strengthen our
faith by having quiet times every morning. Do I ask God
in this quiet time for the strength to stay sober this day?

Meditation For The Day

My five senses are my means of communication with the
material world. They are the links between my physical
life and the material manifestations around me. But I
must sever all connections with the material world when
I wish to hold communion with the Great Spirit of the
universe. I have to hush my mind and bid all my senses
be still, before I can become attuned to receive the
music of the heavenly spheres.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may get my spirit in tune with the Spirit
of the universe. I pray that through faith and communion
with Him I may receive the strength I need.

Surrender

Such is the paradox of A.A. regeneration: strength arising out of complete defeat and weakness, the loss of one's old life as a condition for finding a new one. But we of A.A. do not have to understand that paradox; we have only to be grateful for it.

DAILY REFLECTIONS

TODAY, IT'S MY CHOICE

. . . we invariably find that at some time in the past we have

made decisions based on self which later placed us in a

position to be hurt.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 62

With the realization and acceptance that I had played a part

in the way my life had turned out came a dramatic change

in my outlook. It was at this point that the A.A. program

began to work for me. In the past I had always blamed

others, either God or other people, for my circumstances. I

never felt that I had a choice in altering my life. My decisions

had been based on fear, pride, or ego. As a result,

those decisions led me down a path of self-destruction.

Today I try to allow my God to guide me on the road to

sanity. I am responsible for my action—or inaction—

whatever the consequences may be.

As Bill Sees It

Going It Alone, p. 274

Going it alone in spiritual matters is dangerous. How many times have we heard well-intentioned people claim the guidance of Godwhen it was plain that they were mistaken? Lacking both practice and humility, they deluded themselves and were so able to justify the most arrant nonsense on the ground that this was what God had told them.

People of very high spiritual development almost always insist on checking with friends or spiritual advisers the guidance they feel they have received from God. Surely, then, a novice ought not lay himself open to the chance of making foolish, perhaps tragic blunders. While the comment or advice of others may not be infallible, it is likely to be far more specific than any direct guidance we may receive while we are still inexperienced in establishing contact with a Power greater than ourselves.

In response to a Committee Consideration from the 73rd General Service Conference
