Merry Christmas Everyone!!

Christmas Day is in our grasp,

as long as we have hands to clasp!

Christmas Day will always be,

just as long, as we have we!

Welcome Christmas while we stand,

heart to heart,

and hand in hand!”

–Dr. Seuss

Christmas, children, is not a date.

It is a state of mind. ”
Mary Ellen Chase

“A lovely thing about Christmas is that it's compulsory,

like a thunderstorm, and we all go through it together.”
Garrison Keillor, Leaving Home

“What is Christmas? It is tenderness for the past,

courage for the present, hope for the future.

It is a fervent wish that every cup may overflow

with blessings rich and eternal,

and that every path may lead to peace."

― Agnes M. Pahro

“Blessed is the season

which engages the whole world in a conspiracy of love.”
Hamilton Wright Mabie

Big Book Quote

The feeling of having shared in a common peril is one element in the powerful cement which binds us. But that in itself would never have held us together as we are now joined.

Tradition Two - "For our group purpose, there is but one ultimate authority - a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience."

Growing pains now beset the group. Panhandlers panhandle. Lonely hearts pine. Problems descend like an avalanche. Still more important, murmurs are heard in the body politic, which swell into a loud cry: "Do these oldtimers think they can run this group forever? Let's have an election!" The founder and his friends are hurt and depressed. They rush from crisis to crisis and from member to member, pleading; but it's no use, the revolution is on. The group conscience is about to take over.

Twenty-Four Hours

 A.A. Thought For The Day

Many alcoholics will be saying today: "This is a good
Christmas for me." They will be looking back over the
past Christmases which were not like this one. They
will be thanking God for their sobriety and their new
found life. They will be thinking about how their
lives have changed when they came into A.A. They will
be thinking that perhaps God let them live through all
the hazards of their drinking careers, when they were
perhaps often close to death, in order that they may
be used by Him in the great work of A.A. Is this a happy
Christmas for me?

Meditation For The Day

The kingdom of heaven is also for the lowly, the
sinners, the repentant. "And they presented unto him
gifts--gold, frankincense, and myrrh." Bring your gifts
of gold--your money and material possessions. Bring
your frankincense--the consecration of your life to a
worthy cause. Bring your myrrh--your sympathy and
understanding and help. Lay them all at the feet of
God and let Him have full use of them.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may be truly thankful on this Christmas day.
I pray that I may bring my gifts and lay them on the altar.

Why Worry?

"There are many short phrases and expressions in A.A. which make sound sense. 'First Things First':  solving our immediate problems before we try to solve all the others . . . 'Easy Does it.' 'Relax a little.' Try for inner contentment. No one individual can carry all the burdens of the world. Everyone has problems. Getting drunk won't solve them. 'Twenty-four hours a day.' 'Today is the day.' Doing our best, living each day to the fullest is the art of living. Yesterday is gone, and we don't know whether we will be here tomorrow. If we do a good job of living today, and if tomorrow comes for us, then the chances are we will do a good job when it arrives - so why worry about it?"
1976 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous,
Third Edition, p. 382

DAILY REFLECTIONS

AT PEACE WITH LIFE

Every day is a day when we must carry the vision of God's

will into all of our activities "How can I best serve Thee—

Thy will (not mine) be done."

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 85

I read this passage each morning, to start off my day,

because it is a continual reminder to "practice these

principles in all my affairs." When I keep God's will at the

forefront of my mind, I am able to do what I should be

doing, and that puts me at peace with life, with myself and

with God.

A Day At A Time

Reflection For The Day

Someone once said that the mind’s direction is more important than its progress.  If my direction is correct, then progress is sure to follow.  We first come to The Program to receive something for ourselves, but soon learn that we receive most bountifully when we give to others.  If the direction of my mind is to give rather than to receive, then I’ll benefit beyond my greatest expectations.  The more I give of myself and the more generously I open my heart and mind to others, the more growth and progress I’ll achieve.

Am I learning not to measure my giving against my getting, accepting that the act of giving is its own reward?

Today I Pray

May I not lose sight of that pillar of The Program — helping myself through helping others in our purpose of achieving comfortable sobriety.  May I feel that marvel of giving and taking and giving back again from the moment I take the First Step.

May I care deeply about others’ maintaining their freedom from chemicals, and may I know that they care about me.  It is a simple — and beautiful — exchange.

Today I Will Remember

Give and take and give back again.
