Aging is a moral and spiritual frontier because its unknowns, terrors, and mysteries cannot be successfully crossed without humility and
self-knowledge. Without love and compassion. Without acceptance of physical decline and mortality, and a sense of the sacred. The path of awakening is not about becoming who you are. Rather, it is about
unbecoming who you are not. This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook —try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless and above all have fun. It is not enough merely to possess virtue, as if it were an art; it should be practiced. - Cicero |
Big Book
Quote Resentment is the "number one" offender. It destroys
more alcoholics than anything else. From it stem all forms of spiritual
disease, for we have been not only mentally and physically ill, we have been
spiritually sick. When the spiritual malady is overcome, we straighten out
mentally and physically. P64 |

DAILY
REFLECTIONS FINDING
"A REASON TO BELIEVE" The
willingness to grow is the essence of all spiritual development. AS BILL SEES
IT, p. 171 A line from a
song goes, ". . . and I look to find a reason to believe . .
." It reminds me that at one time I was not able to find a reason
to believe that my life was all right. Even though my
life had been saved by my coming to A.A., three months
later I went out and drank again. Someone told me:
"You don't have to believe. Aren't you willing to believe that
there is a reason for your life, even though you may not know
yourself what that reason is, or that you may not sometimes
know the right way to behave?" When I saw how willing I
was to believe there was a reason for my life, then I could
start to work on the Steps. Now when I begin with, "I
am willing. . . ," I am using the key that leads to action, honesty, and
an openness to a Higher Power moving through my
life. |
Pot Luck Keep It Simple A
man should never be ashamed to own he was in the wrong. —Jonathan
Swift In
the past, we felt a mistake was a crisis. We thought we had a to be perfect.
Our old way was to try to hide our mistakes. We were ashamed. We thought
making mistakes meant we were bad. Mistakes
are normal. We can learn from our mistakes. They can teach us. They
can guide us. The Tenth Step directs us to promptly admit when we’re wrong.
Then, over time, we start to see mistakes as normal life events. As we face
and correct our mistakes, shame is washed away. We feel lighter. We know it is normal to make mistakes. Prayer
for the Day: Higher
Power, help me see that mistakes are normal life events. Help me promptly
admit when I’m wrong. Action
for the Day: Today,
I’ll talk to my sponsor about mistakes I’ve made the past week. I’ll not act
ashamed of my mistakes. |
