When you are patient, you take the time to immerse yourself in the
joy of the moment which is denied to those who hurry.
~Donald Curtis

“The human race is challenged more than ever before

to demonstrate our mastery, not over nature but of ourselves.”

― Rachel Carson

We flourish under the benefits of encouragement, praise, approval, and acceptance.

If we live with encouragement--especially our own--we learn to be confident.

If we live with self-praise, we learn to appreciate what's around us.

If we coexist with self-approval,

we're more likely to give ourselves--and others--a little slack.
~Leslie Levine

The finest gift you can give anyone is encouragement.

Yet, almost no one gets the encouragement they need

to grow to their full potential.

If everyone received the encouragement they need to grow,

the genius in most everyone would blossom

and the world would produce abundance beyond the wildest dreams.

We would have more than one Einstein, Edison, Schweitzer, Mother Theresa,

Dr. Salk and other great minds in a century.
~Sidney Madwed

Big Book Quote

To Christ I conceded the certainty of a great man, not too closely followed by those who claimed Him. His moral teaching-most excellent. For myself, I had adopted those parts which seemed convenient and not too difficult; the rest I disregarded.

Tradition Two - "For our group purpose, there is but one ultimate authority - a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience."

"It was meeting night. Although none of the alcoholics we boarded seemed to get sober, some others had. With their wives they crowded into our downstairs parlor. At once I burst into the story of my opportunity. Never shall I forget their impassive faces, and the steady gaze they focused upon me. With waning enthusiasm, my tale trailed off to the end. There was a long silence.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

The thoughts that come before having a slip are often
largely subconscious. It is a question whether or not
our subconscious minds ever become entirely free from
alcoholic thoughts as long as we live. For instance,
some of us dream about being drunk when we are asleep,
even after several years of sobriety in A.A. During the
period of our drinking days, our subconscious minds have
been thoroughly conditioned by our alcoholic way of
thinking and it is doubtful that they ever become
entirely free of such thoughts during our lifetime. But
when our conscious minds are fully conditioned against
drinking, we can stay sober and our subconscious minds
do not often bother us. Am I still conditioning my conscious
mind?

Meditation For The Day

Having sympathy and compassion for all who are in
temptation, a condition which we are sometimes in, we
have a responsibility towards them. Sympathy always
includes responsibility. Pity is useless because it does
not have a remedy for the need. But wherever our sympathy
goes, our responsibility goes too. When we are moved with
compassion, we should go to the one in need and bind up
his wounds as best we can.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may have sympathy for those in temptation.
I pray that I may have compassion for others' trials.

Working With Others

"Life will take on new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends - this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it."
c. 1976 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 89

Daily Reflection

"SUGGESTED" STEPS

Our Twelfth Step also says that as a result of practicing all

the Steps, we have each found something called a spiritual

awakening. . . . A. A.'s manner of making ready to receive

this gift lies in the practice of the Twelve Steps in our

program."

TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, pp. 106-07

I remember my sponsor's answer when I told him that the

Steps were "suggested." He replied that they are

"suggested" in the same way that, if you were to jump out

of an airplane with a parachute, it is "suggested" that you

pull the ripcord to save your life. He pointed out that it was

"suggested" I practice the Twelve Steps, if I wanted to save

my life. So I try to remember daily that I have a whole

program of recovery based on all Twelve of the

"suggested" Steps.

Getting Caught

When I was using, manageability meant not getting caught.

Manageability meant getting by again, keeping the scam going,

not letting on, admitting anybody else could catch on.

Being cool — or at least looking cool.

Now my life is different. Now I am out in the open.

Now I have admitted that I am powerless.

Now I’ve said I need help in living my life.

Now I that I am serious about working my program I should be willing to get caught.

I should be willing to admit that I could have done better at that job.

That I wasn’t very pleasant company last night.

That I shouldn’t have acted out with that other driver.

That I should have practiced the Twelve Steps instead of my anger, or my isolation or my pride.

Who catches me? When I am really lucky I catch myself.

I apply the Seventy Step (humbly asking that defects be removed)

or the Ninth Step (making amends) or the Tenth Step (promptly admitting I am wrong)

Other times people in the program catch me.

Something I hear at a meeting will give me a sudden insight into my own behavior

I’ll say to myself, “Hey, the jerky thing that guy did, I’ve done that too.”

Sometimes a sponsor or a fellow member will point out a defect in operation.

Sometimes it will be a co-worker. Sometimes it will be a family member or a friend.

But whoever catches me attests to the function of a Higher Power in my life.

Whoever catches me shows me that I am not alone.

When I get “caught” I learn that I am a part of the community in action.

And in this case the action is helping me grow.

Committee Consideration

from the 73rd General Service Conference

In response to a Committee Consideration from the 73rd General Service Conference

regarding any possible future changes to literature written by A.A.’s founders,

that committee agreed it would be beneficial to gather shared experience

from the Fellowship regarding this topic.
