It is futile to wish for a long life,

and then to give so little care to living well.

~Thomas A Kempis

Slow down and enjoy life.

It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast

--you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.
~Eddie Cantor

People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life.

I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking.

I think that what we’re really seeking

is an experience of being alive,

so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane

will have resonances within our innermost being and reality,

so that we can actually feel the rapture of being alive.

-Joseph Campbell

Karma isn't luck or destiny—

luck suggests randomness;

destiny, a lack of choice.

Nor is it the voice of the gods trying to keep us in line.

Karma is a description of how moral law operates,

not a prescription for good behavior.
~Joan Duncan Oliver

Big Book Quote

Most good ideas are simple, and this concept was the keystone of the new and triumphant arch through which we passed to freedom.

12&12

Step Eleven - "Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out."

Sometimes we took a slightly different tack. Sure, we said to ourselves, the hen probably did come before the egg. No doubt the universe had a "first cause" of some sort, the God of the Atom, maybe, hot and cold by turns. But certainly there wasn't any evidence of a God who knew or cared about human beings. We liked A.A. all right, and were quick to say that it had done miracles. But we recoiled from meditation and prayer as obstinately as the scientist who refused to perform a certain experiment lest it prove his pet theory wrong. Of course we finally did experiment, and when unexpected results followed, we felt different; in fact we knew different; and so we were sold on meditation and prayer. And that, we have found, can happen to anybody who tries. It has been well said that "almost the only scoffers at prayer are those who never tried it enough."

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

Continuing the consideration of the term "spiritual experience":
"What often takes place in a few months could seldom have been
accomplished by years of self-discipline. With few exceptions,
our members find that they have tapped an unsuspected inner
resource which they presently identify with their own conception
of a Power greater than themselves. Most of us think this
awareness of a Power greater than ourselves the essence of
spiritual experience. Some of us call it God-consciousness.
In any case, willingness, honesty, and open-mindedness are
the essentials of recovery." Have I tapped that inner resource
which can change my life?

Meditation For The Day

God's power in your life increases as your ability to understand
His grace increases. The power of God's grace is only limited by
the understanding and will of each individual. God's miracle-working
power is only limited in each individual soul by the lack of
spiritual vision of the soul. God respects free will, the right
of each person to accept or reject His miracle-working power.
Only the sincere desire of the soul gives Him the opportunity
to bestow it.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may not limit God's power by my lack of vision.
I pray that I may keep my mind open today to His influence.

Triumph

"It is only at the moment when a member ceases to drink that he asserts the right to describe himself as an alcoholic . . . What an unthinking world may look upon as defeat, alcoholics in A.A. know as a triumph of the spirit, a triumph of humility over false pride and self-centeredness. How few human beings ever have the courage to stand up before their neighbors and, in humility, describing themselves truthfully, to say: 'This is what I really am.'"

Daily Reflection

WITHOUT RESERVATION

When brimming with gratitude, one's heartbeat must surely

result in outgoing love, . . .

AS BILL SEES IT, p. 37

While practicing service to others, if my successes give rise

to grandiosity, I must reflect on what brought me to this

point. What has been given joyfully, with love, must be

passed on without reservation and without expectation. For

as I grow, I find that no matter how much I give with love,

I receive much more in spirit.

Pot Luck

Good morning

EXPECTING TOO MUCH

Unrealistically

I was almost always disappointed. Why? Well I had very high expectations of others all the time. You didn't come through for me again. The big letdown from not getting what I was expecting. How can this be happening to me over and over again? The level of negativity was nearly unbearable for me. With a few drinks it all went away for the moment.

Now I work on how I judge my expectations. Knowing that others are human too. Inventory has shown me time and time again how unrealistic my expectations are not only of others but myself as well. Losing what I now know to be a very childish attitude is of paramount importance in having any type of an effective life today.

Father, please help me to see any and all flaws in any expectations I may have today.

Today I will do my best to have only realistic expectations.

Peace be with you.

In response to a Committee Consideration from the 73rd General Service Conference

regarding any possible future changes to literature written by A.A.’s founders,

that committee agreed it would be beneficial to gather shared experience
