From Jacksonville, FL

Today, a new sun rises for me.

Everything lives, everything is animated,

everything seems to speak to me of my passion,

everything invites me to cherish it.
~Ninon de L’Enclos

Anxiety about the future never profits;

we feel no evil until it comes,

and when we feel it, no counsel helps;

wisdom is either too early or too late.

-Arthur Somers Roche

The source of anxiety lies in the future.

If you can keep the future out of mind,

 you can forget your worries.

-Milan Kundera

Finland is the happiest Country in the world. And it’s because it has the lowest level of unhappiness. What helps keep unhappiness at bay is that Finns tend to live by these three tenets:

A strong sense of community and relatedness.

The importance of doing good deeds for other people.

The importance of finding a clear purpose for oneself.

~CNBC

Big Book Quote

“Being still inexperienced and having just made conscious contact with God, it is not probable that we are going to be inspired at all times.”

Tradition Eleven - "Our public relations policy is based on attraction rather than promotion; we need always maintain personal anonymity at the level of press, radio, and films."

There was actually a time when the press of America thought the anonymity of A.A. was better for us than some of our own members did. At on point, about a hundred of our Society were breaking anonymity at the public level. With perfectly good intent, these folks declared that the principle of anonymity was horse-an-buggy stuff, something appropriate to A.A.'s pioneering days. They were sure that A.A. could go faster and farther if it availed itself of modern publicity methods. A.A., they pointed out, included many persons of local, national, or international fame. Provided they were willing--and many were--why shouldn't their membership be publicized, thereby encouraging others to join us? These were plausible arguments, but happily our friends of the writing profession disagreed with them.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

When I find myself thinking about taking a drink, I say to myself.
"Don't reach out and take that problem back. You've given it to God
and there's nothing you can do about it." So I forget about the
drink. One of the most important parts of the A.A. program is to give
our drink problem to God honestly and fully and never to reach out
and take the problem back to ourselves. If we let God have it and
keep it for good and then cooperate with Him, we'll stay sober. Have
I determined not to take the drink problem back to myself?

Meditation For The Day

Constant effort is necessary if I am to grow spiritually and develop
my spiritual life. I must keep the spiritual rules persistently,
perseveringly, lovingly, patiently, and hopefully. By keeping them, every
mountain of difficulty shall be laid low, the rough places of poverty of
spirit shall be made smooth, and all who know me shall know that God is
the Lord of all my ways. To get close to the spirit of God is to find
life and healing and strength.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that God's spirit may be everything to my soul. I pray that
God's spirit may grow within me.

Unity

In many self-governing countries we are now seeing the inroads of ignorance, apathy, and power-seeking upon democratic systems. Their spiritual resources of right purpose and collective intelligence are waning. Consequently, many a land has become so helpless that the only answer is dictatorship. Happily for us, there seems little prospect of such a calamity in A.A. The life of each individual and of each group is built around our Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions. We very well know that the penalty for extensive disobedience to these principles is death for the individual and dissolution for the group. An even greater force for A.A.'s unity is in the compelling love that we have for our fellow members and for the principles upon which our lives today are founded.

Daily Reflection

It works—it really does.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 88

When I got sober I initially had faith only in the program of

Alcoholics Anonymous. Desperation and fear kept me

sober (and maybe a caring and/or tough sponsor helped!).

Faith in a Higher Power came much later. This faith came

slowly at first, after I began listening to others share at

meetings about their experiences—experiences that I had

never faced sober, but that they were facing with strength

from a Higher Power. Out of their sharing came hope that I

too would—and could—"get" a Higher Power. In time, I

learned that a Higher Power—a faith that works under all

conditions—is possible. Today this faith, plus the honesty,

open-mindedness and willingness to work the Steps of the

program, gives me the serenity that I seek. It works—it

really does.

"Acceptance is not a judgment or sentencing.

In acceptance, we recognize and accept the larger scope of life.

This means to simply be with how it feels in this moment.

Set aside the mind stories, judgments, criticisms and everything else.

Simply feel. And accept.

Acceptance brings a spaciousness that alleviates tension.

And thus, a sense of humor and self-humility goes even further.

Acceptance doesn’t wait for the right circumstance in the future,

nor does it belabor past events and traumas.

Acceptance is not self-denigrating.

It is simply a quiet balance of observation and awareness,

though the tasks and challenges of life still need tending to,

the burden is set aside for this moment."

Committee Consideration
