Life was never meant to be a walk in the park. It’s a journey with twisting roads, dead-ends, and obstacles on the path to where you’re going. May God bless you every step of the way.

~Prayables

A strong positive attitude will create more miracles

than any wonder drug.
~Patricia Neal

“The Twelve Traditions were slowly evolved during an era

when large-scale publicity was causing new groups

to spring up like popcorn on a hot griddle.

Many a power-driven ego

ran hog-wild among us in those days,

and it was the Traditions which finally brought order,

coherence, and effective functioning

out of the noisy anarchy which for a time

 threatened us with collapse.”

`AA Co-Founder, Bill W., June 1960

It’s never too late to become who you want to be.

I hope you live a life that you’re proud of,

and if you find that you’re not,

I hope you have the strength to start over.

~F. Scott Fitzgerald

0565 Total Years of Sobriety

12&12

Step One - "We admitted we were powerless over alcohol--that our lives had become unmanageable."

In A.A.'s pioneering time, none but the most desperate cases could swallow and digest this unpalatable truth. Even these "last-gaspers" often had difficulty in realizing how hopeless they actually were. But a few did, and when these laid hold of A.A. principles with all the fervor with which the drowning seize life preservers, they almost invariably got well. That is why the first edition of the book "Alcoholics Anonymous," published when our membership was small, dealt with low-bottom cases only. Many less desperate alcoholics tried A.A., but did not succeed because they could not make the admission of hopelessness.

TWENTY-FOUR HOURS

A.A. Thought For The Day

When I find myself thinking about taking a drink, I say to myself.
"Don't reach out and take that problem back. You've given it to God
and there's nothing you can do about it." So I forget about the
drink. One of the most important parts of the A.A. program is to give
our drink problem to God honestly and fully and never to reach out
and take the problem back to ourselves. If we let God have it and
keep it for good and then cooperate with Him, we'll stay sober. Have
I determined not to take the drink problem back to myself?

Meditation For The Day

Constant effort is necessary if I am to grow spiritually and develop
my spiritual life. I must keep the spiritual rules persistently,
perseveringly, lovingly, patiently, and hopefully. By keeping them, every
mountain of difficulty shall be laid low, the rough places of poverty of
spirit shall be made smooth, and all who know me shall know that God is
the Lord of all my ways. To get close to the spirit of God is to find
life and healing and strength.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that God's spirit may be everything to my soul. I pray that
God's spirit may grow within me.

Vigilance

Deliver us from temptation must continue to be a prime ingredient of our every attitude, practice, and prayer. When things go well, we must never fall into the error of believing that no great ill can possibly befall us. Nor should we accuse ourselves of "negative thinking" when we insist on facing the destructive forces in and around us, both realistically and effectively. Vigilance will always be the price of survival.

DAILY REFLECTION

IT WORKS

It works—it really does.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 88

When I got sober I initially had faith only in the program of

Alcoholics Anonymous. Desperation and fear kept me

sober (and maybe a caring and/or tough sponsor helped!).

Faith in a Higher Power came much later. This faith came

slowly at first, after I began listening to others share at

meetings about their experiences—experiences that I had

never faced sober, but that they were facing with strength

from a Higher Power. Out of their sharing came hope that I

too would—and could—"get" a Higher Power. In time, I

learned that a Higher Power—a faith that works under all

conditions—is possible. Today this faith, plus the honesty,

open-mindedness and willingness to work the Steps of the

program, gives me the serenity that I seek. It works—it

really does.

Gratitude Prayer that pretty well sums up my Life

Don M. - Mission Viejo California

"A gift inspires another gift, and a miracle inspires the next miracle.
It's got to start somewhere; it might as well start with you."

--Scott Hamilton

Several years ago – I don’t remember when or where I heard a Gratitude Prayer that pretty well sums up my life. The prayer is:

“God,

Thank You for what You have given me.

Thank You for what You have taken away.

Thank You for what You have left me with.”

Prior to becoming an active alcoholic, I had what I always wanted.. a trophy wife , a wonderful daughter in college, two houses, three cars and a fantastic job. (Thanks for what You have given me)

Then my two best friends (Stolichnaya and Beefeaters) turned on me and became my master. Believing I could run my life all on my own, I plunged ahead. It seemed that life had become a battleground. Things like fear, shame, guilt, and remorse set in and all the things that I thought were so important were ripped away from me in what seemed to be an instant. The obsession and compulsion for alcohol and other harmful addictions has been removed. (Thanks for what You have taken away).

I never had another great paying job. One of the houses was gone. But my wife and daughter as well as my whole family stood behind me. There was a long period of reconstruction and there were times that were really gut wrenching. Forced into AA, I listened and heard people that had a common problem and they offered me a solution. I had to quit fighting.  By the Grace of God, the program and fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous, guidance from loving sponsors, and my own efforts, I have had a life that is far better than I could ever have hoped, and one that is supremely better than what I deserved. My God quest is never ending.  Every day is an opportunity to express my gratitude by serving others both in and outside AA.  I’ve been married the same wonderful woman for 51 years. I’ve been sober over half that time, and my daughter has given me two grandsons who light up my life. (Thanks for what You have left me with).

As my first sponsor was fond of saying-“ Who’d a thunk it”

Yes, November is gratitude month, but I’m going to take the time I have left on this earth and make every month in the years ahead a Gratitude month.
