Your Daily Reprieve for Saturday October 1 ,  2022

From Nantucket, MA

“I’m guilty of giving people more chances than they deserve

but when I’m done, I’m done.”
– Turcois Ominek

“Just because someone has been in your life for many years,

doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a point at which

you finally decide to let go.”
– Wilfred James Dolor

Integrity is not a conditional word.

It doesn’t blow in the wind or change with the weather.

It is your inner image of yourself,

and if you look in there and see a person who won’t cheat,

then you know you never will.
~John MacDonald

“A clean and sensitive conscience,

a steady and scrupulous integrity in small things as well as large,

is the most valuable of all possessions,

to a nation as to an individual.”

~Henry van Dyke

Big Book Quote

"Here are thousands of men and women, worldly indeed. They flatly declare that since they have come to believe in a Power greater than themselves, to take

a certain attitude toward that Power, and to do certain

simple things. There has been a revolutionary change

in their way of living and thinking. In the face of collapse and despair, in the face of the total failure of their human resources, they found that a new power, peace, happiness, and sense of direction flowed into them."

Tradition Two - "For our group purpose, there is but one ultimate authority - a loving God as He may express Himself in our group conscience."

Growing pains now beset the group. Panhandlers panhandle. Lonely hearts pine. Problems descend like an avalanche. Still more important, murmurs are heard in the body politic, which swell into a loud cry: "Do these oldtimers think they can run this group forever? Let's have an election!" The founder and his friends are hurt and depressed. They rush from crisis to crisis and from member to member, pleading; but it's no use, the revolution is on. The group conscience is about to take over.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

A.A. will lose some of its effectiveness if I do not do my share.

Where am I failing? Are there some things I do not feel like doing?

Am I held back by self-consciousness or fear?

Self-consciousness is a form of pride.

It is a fear that something may happen to you.

What happens to you is not very important.

The impression you make on others does not depend

so much on the kind of job you do as on your

 sincerity and honesty of purpose.

Am I holding back because I am afraid

of not making a good impression?

Meditation For The Day

Look to God for the true power that will make you effective.

See no other wholly dependable supply of strength.

That is the secret of a truly effective life.

And you, in your turn,

will be used to help many others find effectiveness.

Whatever spiritual help you need,

whatever spiritual help you desire for others,

look to God.

Seek that God's will be done in your life

and seek that your will conforms to His.

Failures come from depending

too much on your own strength.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may feel that nothing good is too much for me

if I look to God for help. I pray that I may be effective

 through His guidance.

Step One

"No other kind of bankruptcy is like this one. Alcohol, now becomes the rapacious creditor, bleeds us all of self-sufficiency and all will to resist its demands. Once this stark fact is accepted, our bankruptcy as going human concerns is complete. But upon entering A.A. we soon take quite another view of this absolute humiliation. We perceive that only through utter defeat are we able to take our first steps toward liberation and strength. Our admissions of personal powerlessness finally turn out to be firm bedrock upon which happy and purposeful lives may be built."
1952 AAWS
Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions p. 21

Thought to Consider . . .

Once we clear a hurdle, it doesn't seem so high.

Solutions To Every Problem in Sobriety

Daily Reflection

LEST WE BECOME COMPLACENT

It is easy to let up on the spiritual program of action and

rest on our laurels. We are headed for trouble if we do, for

alcohol is a subtle foe.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 85

When I am in pain it is easy to stay close to the friends I

have found in the program. Relief from that pain is

provided in the solutions contained in A.A.'s Twelve Steps.

But when I am feeling good and things are going well, I can

become complacent. To put it simply, I become lazy and

turn into the problem instead of the solution. I need to get

into action, to take stock: where am I and where am I

going? A daily inventory will tell me what I must change to

regain spiritual balance. Admitting what I find within

myself, to God and to another human being, keeps me

honest and humble.

Pot Luck

“Sometimes the hardest part isn’t letting go

but rather learning to start over.”

– Nicole Sobon

It is difficult to tell others that they need to let go of their bad habits. Because people can become really attached to these bad habits. Have you ever tried to warn a smoker about the perils of smoking? It can be tough. You basically need them to be ready for change and come to you.

It can equally be tough to tell someone to let go of the bad things in their past. Yes, these bad things from the past hold them back. But they also make people who they are today. By letting go, they may feel they risk losing some important part of themselves.

But the toughest, hands down, is to try to convince someone about letting go of a bad relationship.

Unless they are ready to change, most people never want to hear negative things about their relationships. Particularly when they know the things are true. But a bad relationship can hold keep you from success in life just as easily as bad habits and a bad past.
