If it can be verified, we
don't need faith. . . . Faith is for that which
lies on the other side of reason. Faith is what makes life
bearable, with all its tragedies and
ambiguities and sudden, startling joys.
~Madeleine L'Engle It need not discourage us
if we are full of doubts. Healthy questions keep
faith dynamic. In fact, unless we start
with doubts we cannot have a
deep-rooted faith. One who believes lightly
and unthinkingly has not much of a belief. One who has a faith which
is not to be shaken has won it through blood
and tears - -has worked his or her
way from doubt to truth as one who reaches a
clearing through a thicket of
brambles and thorns. Challenges make you
discover things about yourself that you never really
knew. They're what makes the
instrument stretch, what makes you go beyond
the norm. ~unattributed Postpone Action Until Serenity Emerges |
Big Book Quote "Many of us felt that we had plenty of character. There was a
tremendous urge to cease forever. Yet we found it impossible. This is the
baffling feature of alcoholism as we know it—this utter inability to leave it alone, no matter how great the necessity or
the wish." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, More About Alcoholism, pg. 34~ |

12&12 Tradition Four - "Each group should be autonomous except in
matters affecting other groups or A.A. as a whole." |
Twenty-Four Hours A.A. Thought For
The Day Where am I
failing? Are there some things I do not feel like doing? Am I held back
by self-consciousness or fear? Self-consciousness is a form of pride.It is a
fear that something may happen to you. What happens to you is not very
important. The impression you make on others does not depend so much on the
kind of job you do as on your sincerity and honesty of purpose. Am I holding
back because I am afraid of not making a good impression? See no other
wholly dependable supply of strength. That is the secret of a truly effective
life. And you, in your turn, will be used to help many others find
effectiveness. Whatever spiritual help you need, whatever spiritual help you
desire for others, look to God. Seek that God's will be done in your life and
seek that your will conforms to His.
Failures come from depending too much on your own strength. |

Daily Reflection LEST
WE BECOME COMPLACENT It is easy to let up on
the spiritual program of action and rest on our laurels. We
are headed for trouble if we do, for alcohol is a subtle foe. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p.
85 When I am in pain it is
easy to stay close to the friends I have found in the program.
Relief from that pain is provided in the solutions
contained in A.A.'s Twelve Steps. But when I am feeling good
and things are going well, I can become complacent. To put
it simply, I become lazy and turn into the problem
instead of the solution. I need to get into action, to take
stock: where am I and where am I going? A daily inventory
will tell me what I must change to regain spiritual balance.
Admitting what I find within myself, to God and to
another human being, keeps me honest and humble. |
Pot Luck A Day at a Time
Another common denominator among those who slip is failure to
use the tools of The Program - the Twelve Steps. The comments heard most
often are, "I never did
work The Steps," "I never got past the First Step," "I
worked The Steps too slow," or, "too fast," or, "too soon." What it boils
down to is that these people considered the Steps, but didn't conscientiously
and sincerely apply the Steps to their lives.
May I be a doer of the Steps and not a hearer only. May I see
some of the common mis-Steps which lead to a fall: being too proud to admit
Step One; being too tied to everyday earth to feel the presence of a Higher
Power; being overwhelmed by the thought of preparing Step Four, a complete
moral inventory; being too reticent to share that inventory. Please, God,
guide me as I work the Twelve Steps.
To watch my Steps.
