Your Daily Reprieve for Sunday  April  25, 2021

From Waynesvile, NC

“When I go to a meeting today,

I no longer have the delusion that I am supporting a good cause.

I need AA; AA did quite well without me during my ten years of self-exile.

I go to AA meetings today to hear and see how God is working.

When I share at a meeting, it is not to try and ‘help’ those poor wretches, it is because I need their help and guidance.”

~Grapevine: El Paso, Texas, October 2006

"I came to this program to save my butt

and found out it was attached to my soul."

--Anonymous

We do not remember days, we remember moments.

-Cesare Pavese

Rest is not idleness,

and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day

listening to the murmur of water,

or watching the clouds float across the sky,

is hardly a waste of time.

-John Lubbock

Big Book Quote

"Much to our relief, we discovered we did not need to consider

another's conception of God. Our own conception, however inadequate,

was sufficient to make the approach and to effect a contact with

Him. As soon as we admitted the possible existence of a Creative

Intelligence, a Spirit of the Universe underlying the totality of

things, we began to be possessed of a new sense of power and

direction, provided we took other simple steps."

1640 Total Years of Sobriety

12&12

Step Eight - "Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all."

These obstacles, however, are very real. The first, and one of the most difficult, has to do with forgiveness. The moment we ponder a twisted or broken relationship with another person, our emotions go on the defensive. To escape looking at the wrongs we have done another, we resentfully focus on the wrong he has done us. This is especially true if he has, in fact, behaved badly at all. Triumphantly we seize upon his misbehavior as the perfect excuse for minimizing or forgetting our own.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

I don't believe that A.A. works because I read it in a book
or because I hear people say so. I believe it because I see
people getting sober and staying sober. An actual demonstration
is what convinces me. When I see the change in people, I can't
help believing that A.A. works. We could listen to talk about
A.A. all day and still not believe it, but when we see it work,
we have to believe it. Seeing is believing. Do I see A.A. work
every day?

Meditation For The Day

Try saying "God bless her (or him)" of anyone who is in
disharmony with you. Also say it of those who are in trouble
through their own fault. Say it, willing that showers of
blessings may fall upon them. Let God do the blessing. Leave
to God the necessary correcting or disciplining. You should
only desire blessing for them. Leave God's work to God. Occupy
yourself with the task that He gives you to do. God's blessing
will also break down all your own difficulties and build up all
your successes.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may use God's goodness so that it will be a
blessing to others. I pray that I may accept God's blessing so
that I will have harmony, beauty, joy, and happiness.

Prayer

"In A.A. we have found that the actual good results of prayer are beyond question. They are matters of knowledge and experience. All those who have persisted have found strength not ordinarily their own. They have found wisdom beyond their usual capability. And they have increasingly found a peace of mind which can stand firm in the face of difficult circumstances."

Daily Reflection

ENTERING A NEW DIMENSION

In the late stages of our drinking the will to resist has fled.

Yet when we admit complete defeat and when we become

entirely ready to try A. A. principles, our obsession leaves

us and we enter a new dimension—freedom under God as

we understand Him.

AS BILL SEES IT, p. 283

I am fortunate to be among the ones who have had this

awesome transformation in my life. When I entered the

doors of A.A., alone and desperate, I had been beaten into

willingness to believe anything I heard. One of the things I

heard was, "This could be your last hangover, or you can

keep going round and round." The man who said this

obviously was a whole lot better off than 1.1 liked the idea

of admitting defeat and I have been free ever since! My

heart heard what my mind never could: "Being powerless

over alcohol is no big deal." I'm free and I'm grateful!

Pot Luck

. Just for tonight, I will be grateful. I will give thanks for the passing day - its failures as well as its successes, its sadness as well as its joy, and its pain as well as its pleasures. I will take comfort in knowing that every and circumstance that occurred today can be used for my good and the good of others.

Just for tonight, I will accept that I have done the best I could, remembering that my goal is spiritual progress and not perfection. I will let go of any expectation I have for this day, as well as any disappointment, shame, or guilt I feel for not being perfect today.

Just for tonight, I will be humble. I will give my shortcomings to a Power greater than myself, trusting that doing so can bring about changes in me that I could not bring about in myself.

Just for tonight, I will not attempt to rectify today's mistakes or solve tomorrow's problems. I will remind myself that I am better able to receive guidance when my mind and body are rested and refreshed.

Just for tonight, I will set aside my fears, frustrations, and aspirations, and take a few minutes to review the abundance that exists in my life today. I will place my future in the care of a loving God of my understanding, trusting my needs will be met at a time, and in a way that is best for all concerned.

Just for tonight, I will release my loved ones to a Higher Power's care. I will free myself from trying to do the impossible - changing the actions, attitudes, or life of anyone other than myself.

Just for tonight, I will set aside all anger, judgment, resentment, envy, and hurt feelings. I will ask my Higher Power to bless those whose actions I feel troubled by, and to change my attitude to one of love, acceptance, and compassion.

Just for tonight, I will find a safe, comfortable place to lie down and close my eyes. I will remind myself I am both deserving and in need of rest. I will look forward to awakening to the new day, feeling rested and ready to follow my Higher Power's guidance.
