day to our life,
let us receive it

– Marcus Annaeus Seneca
You've got three choices in
life and they all require giving.
You can either give up,
give in, or give it all you got!
May you
be blessed with heartfelt giving just as God intended.

Big Book Quote
"I was to test
my thinking by the new God-consciousness within.
Common sense would thus become uncommon sense. I was to sit quietly when in doubt, asking only for direction and strength to meet my problems as He would have me. Never was I to pray for myself, except as my requests bore on my usefulness to others. Then only might I expect to receive. But that would be in great measure." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Bill's Story, Page 13~ |

Step Four - "Made a searching and fearless moral inventory
of ourselves."
Some will object to many of the questions posed, because they think their own character defects have not been so glaring. To these it can be suggested that a conscientious examination is likely to reveal the very defects the objectionable questions are concerned with. Because our surface record hasn't looked too bad, we have frequently been abashed to find that this is so simply because we have buried these self same defects deep down in us under thick layers of self-justification. Whatever the defects, they have finally ambushed us into alcoholism and misery. pp. 53-54 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day It doesn't do much good to come to meetings only once in a while and sit around, hoping to get something out of the program. That's all right at first, but it won't help us very long. Sooner or later we have to get into action, by coming to meetings regularly, by giving a personal witness of our experience with alcohol, and by trying to help other alcoholics. Building a new life takes all the energy that we used to spend on drinking. Am I spending at least as much time and effort on the new life that I'm trying to build in A.A.? Meditation For The Day With God's help, I will build a protective screen around myself which will keep out all evil thoughts. I will fashion it out of my attitude toward God and my attitude toward other people. When one worrying or impatient thought enters my mind, I will put it out at once. I know that love and trust are the solvents for the worry and frets of life. I will use them to form a protective screen around me. Prayer For The Day I pray that frets and impatience and worry may not corrode my protective screen against all evil thoughts. I pray that I may banish all these from my life. |

Slip
"I had commenced to drink as though the cocktails were ginger ale. I now remembered what my alcoholic friends had told me, how they prophesied that if I had an alcoholic mind, the time and place would come - I would drink again . . . I knew from that moment that I had an alcoholic mind. I saw that will power and self-knowledge would not help in those strange mental blank spots . . . I had never been able to understand people who said that a problem had them hopelessly defeated. I knew then. It was a crushing blow." c. 1976, 2001AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 41-42

Daily Reflection
HAPPINESS COMES QUIETLY
"The trouble with us alcoholics was this: We demanded
that
the world give us happiness and peace of mind in just the
particular order we wanted to get it—by the alcohol route.
And we weren't successful. But when we take time to find
out some of the spiritual laws, and familiarize ourselves
with them, and put them into practice, then we do get
happiness and peace of mind. . . . There seem to be some
rules that we have to follow, but happiness and peace of
mind are always here, open and free to anyone."
DR. BOB AND THE GOOD OLDTIMERS, p. 308
The simplicity of the A. A. program teaches me that
happiness isn't something I can "demand." It
comes upon
me quietly, while I serve others. In offering my hand to
the
newcomer or to someone who has relapsed, I find that my
own sobriety has been recharged with indescribable
gratitude and happiness.

Pot Luck
“To
be grateful is to recognize the Love of God
in
everything He has given us - and He has given us everything.
Every
breath we draw is a gift of His love,
every
moment of existence is a grace,
for it brings with it immense graces from
Him.
Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted,
is
never unresponsive,
is
constantly awakening to new wonder and
to praise of the goodness of God.
For
the grateful person knows that God is good,
not
by hearsay but by experience.
And
that is what makes all the difference.”
- Thomas Merton
