Lord, when I am wrong, give
me the willingness to change.
When I am finally right,
make me easy to live with!
~John (Anonymous)
If we listened to our
intellect we'd never have a love affair. We'd never have a friendship. We'd
never go in business because we'd be cynical: "It's gonna go
wrong." Or "She's going to hurt me." Or,"I've had a
couple of bad love affairs, so therefore . . ." Well, that's nonsense.
You're going to miss life. You've got to jump off the cliff all the time and
build your wings on the way down."
~Ray Bradbury
People talk about the
"sacrifice" we make in doing what's right instead of what we want
to do. Is that a sacrifice which brings its own best reward in activity that
leads to gratitude, the consciousness of doing good, and peace of mind?
Sounds more like a privilege then a sacrifice!
~Nick Harrison
When it's all said &
done,
let's hope you haven't said
more than you've done.
~Chris Day @imchrisday |

Big Book Quote
Most of us have been unwilling to admit we were real alcoholics.
No
person likes to think he is bodily and mentally different from his fellows. Therefore, it is not surprising that our drinking careers have been characterized by countless vain attempts to prove we could drink like other people. The idea that somehow, someday he will control and enjoy his drinking is the great obsession of every abnormal drinker. The persistence of this illusion is astonishing. Many pursue it into the gates of insanity or death. ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, More About Alcoholism, Page 30~ |

12&12
Step Two - "Came to believe that a Power greater than
ourselves could restore us to sanity."
Few indeed are the practicing alcoholics who have any idea how irrational they are, or seeing their irrationality, can bear to face it. Some will be willing to term themselves "problem drinkers," but cannot endure the suggestion that they are in fact mentally ill. They are abetted in this blindness by a world which does not understand the difference between sane drinking and alcoholism. "Sanity" is defined as "soundness of mind." Yet no alcoholic, soberly analyzing his destructive behavior, whether the destruction fell on the dining-room furniture or his own moral fiber, can claim "soundness of mind" for himself. pp. 32-33 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The
Day
The thoughts that come before having a slip are often largely subconscious. It is a question whether or not our subconscious minds ever become entirely free from alcoholic thoughts as long as we live. For instance, some of us dream about being drunk when we are asleep, even after several years of sobriety in A.A. During the period of our drinking days, our subconscious minds have been thoroughly conditioned by our alcoholic way of thinking and it is doubtful that they ever become entirely free of such thoughts during our lifetime. But when our conscious minds are fully conditioned against drinking, we can stay sober and our subconscious minds do not often bother us. Am I still conditioning my conscious mind? Meditation For The Day Having sympathy and compassion for all who are in temptation, a condition which we are sometimes in, we have a responsibility towards them. Sympathy always includes responsibility. Pity is useless because it does not have a remedy for the need. But wherever our sympathy goes, our responsibility goes too. When we are moved with compassion, we should go to the one in need and bind up his wounds as best we can. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may have sympathy for those in temptation. I pray that I may have compassion for others' trials. |

Unless one's family expresses a desire to live upon spiritual principles we think we ought not to urge them. We should not talk incessantly to them about spiritual matters. They will change in time. Our behavior will convince them more than our words. We must remember that ten or twenty years of drunkenness would make a skeptic out of anyone." c. 1976 AAWS Alcoholics Anonymous Page 83 Thought to Consider . . . Attitudes are contagious. Daily Reflection
"SUGGESTED"
STEPS
Our Twelfth Step also says
that as a result of practicing all
the Steps, we have each
found something called a spiritual
awakening. . . . A. A.'s
manner of making ready to receive
this gift lies in the
practice of the Twelve Steps in our
program."
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE
TRADITIONS, pp. 106-07
I remember my sponsor's
answer when I told him that the
Steps were
"suggested." He replied that they are
"suggested" in
the same way that, if you were to jump out
of an airplane with a
parachute, it is "suggested" that you
pull the ripcord to save
your life. He pointed out that it was
"suggested" I
practice the Twelve Steps, if I wanted to save
my life. So I try to
remember daily that I have a whole
program of recovery based
on all Twelve of the
"suggested"
Steps.

Pot Luck
Keep It Simple
The work of adult life is not easy.---Gail Sheehy
We
used to look for a easier, softer way. We tried to take care of ourselves by
staying clear of hard task. The result? We haven't known what the work of
adult life is.
The
work of adult life is this: to become spiritually centered. And to do this,
we work at getting rid of our self-will. There will be many great rewards for
doing this. We will wake up spiritually. We will connect with those we love.
The result? We will receive self-love to replace self-will. Our work will not
be easy, but it will be rewarding.
Prayer
for the Day: Higher Power, help me to give all to my recovery program.
Then help me to be open to the rewards this will bring.
Action
for the Day: I will list the hard parts of my program. Then I'll talk
about them with my sponsor, friends, family, and Higher Power
