“Plenty of people miss
their share of happiness, not because they never found it, but because they
didn't stop to enjoy it.”
William Feather
“The five H's combine into
a powerful formula for success. Starting with Hope, passing through Honesty into a gracious Humility, we become Human again, taking our rightful
places in society and, by living a well rounded life, develop an integrated
personality free of the stresses that urge us to drink. Finally, through Helpfulness we express gratitude and
pass on to others some of the blessings we have enjoyed these recent weeks,
months, years. Truly a Magic Formula for Continued Sobriety....”
~Grapevine: Scarsdale, New
York, December 1957
In prosperity our friends
know us;
in adversity we know our
friends.
~John Churton Collins
Happiness is a direction,
not a place.
~Sydney J. Harris

Big Book Quote
Do not be discouraged if your prospect does not respond at once.
Search out another alcoholic and try again. You are sure to find someone desperate enough to accept with eagerness what you offer. We find it a waste of time to keep chasing a man who cannot or will not work with you. If you leave such a person alone, he may soon become convinced that he cannot recover by himself. To spend too much time on any one situation is to deny some other alcoholic an opportunity to live and be happy. ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Working With Others, pg. 96~ |

Foreword
This book deals with the "Twelve Steps" and the "Twelve Traditions" of Alcoholics Anonymous. It presents an explicit view of principles by which A.A. members recover and by which their Society functions. p. 15 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
Now that we have considered the obligations of real, working members of A.A.,
let us examine what the rewards are that have come to us
as a result of our new way of living.
First, I understand myself more than I ever did before.
I have learned what was the matter with me
and I know now a lot of what makes me tick.
I will never be alone again.
I am just one of many who have the illness of alcoholism
and one of many who have learned what to do about it.
I am not an odd fish or a square peg in a round hole.
I seem to have found my right place in the world.
Am I beginning to understand myself?
Meditation For The Day "Behold, I stand at the door and knock.
If any man hear my voice and open the door,
I will come in to him and will remain with him and him with
me."
The knocking of God's spirit, asking to come into your life,
is due to no merit of yours, though it is in response to the
longing of your heart.
Keep a listening ear, an ear bent to catch the sound of the
gentle
knocking at the door of your heart by the spirit of God.
Then open the door of your heart and let God's spirit come in.
Prayer For The Day I pray that I may let God's spirit come into my heart.
I pray that it may fill me with an abiding peace.

(\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Demonstration "Men and women who use alcohol as an escape are not the only ones who are afraid of life, hostile to the world, fleeing from it into loneliness. Millions who are not alcoholics are living today in illusory worlds, nurturing the basic anxieties and insecurities of human existence rather than face themselves with courage and humility. To these people, A.A. can offer as a cure no magic potion, no chemical formula, no powerful drug. But it can demonstrate to them how to use the tools of humility, honesty, devotion, and love, which indeed are the heart of the Twelve Steps of our recovery." c.1957 AAWS Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age, p. 279 Thought to Consider . . . A.A. Is like an adjustable wrench, it fits almost any nut.

Daily Reflection
NOTHING GROWS IN
THE DARK
We will want the
good that is in us all, even in the worst of
us, to flower and to
grow.
AS BILL SEES IT, p.
10
With the
self-discipline and insight gained from practicing
Step Ten, I begin to
know the gratifications of sobriety—
not as mere
abstinence from alcohol, but as recovery in
every department of
my life.
I renew hope,
regenerate faith, and regain the dignity of
self-respect. I
discover the word "and" in the phrase "and
when we were wrong,
promptly admitted it."
Reassured that I am
no longer always wrong, I learn to
accept myself as I
am, with a new sense of the miracles of
sobriety and
serenity.

Pot Luck
"Lots of people hardly ever feel real soil under their feet, see plants grow except in flower pots, or get fare enough beyond the street light to catch the enchantment of a night sky studded with stars. When people live far from scenes of the Great Spirit's making, it's easy for them to forget His laws." --Tatanga Mani (Walking Buffalo), STONEY Nature is life's greatest teacher. The natural laws are hidden in nature. Hidden are solutions to everyday problems such as conflict resolution, how to forgive, lessons about differences, how to manage organizations, how to think. Hidden are feelings. You can look at something and you will feel it. At night, have you ever looked at the sky when there are no clouds? As you look at all the stars, your heart will become very joyful. You will walk away feeling joyful and peaceful. We need to visit nature so we can see and feel these things. My Creator, let me learn nature's lessons. |
