Big Book Quote
"We commenced to make many fast friends and a fellowship has
grown up among us of which it is a wonderful thing to feel a part. The joy of
living we really have, even under pressure and difficulty."

Tradition Nine - "A.A., as such, ought never be organized;
but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those
they serve."
Just as the aim of each A.A. member is personal sobriety, the aim of our services is to bring sobriety within reach of all who want it. If nobody does the group's chores, if the area's telephone rings unanswered, if we do not reply to our mail, then A.A. as we know it would stop. Our communications lines with those who need our help would be broken. p. 175 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The
Day
Step Eight is, "Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all." Step Nine is, "Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others." Making restitution for the wrongs we have done is often very difficult. It hurts our pride. But the rewards are great. When we go to a person and say we are sorry, the reaction we get is almost invariably good. It takes courage to make the plunge, but the results more than justify it. A load is off your chest and often an enemy has been turned into a friend. Have I done my best to make all the restitution possible? Meditation For The Day There should be joy in living the spiritual life. A faith without joy is not entirely genuine. If you are not happier as a result of your faith, there is probably something wrong with it. Faith in God should bring you a deep feeling of happiness and security, no matter what happens on the surface of your life. Each new day is another opportunity to serve God and improve your relationships with other people. This should bring joy. Life should be abundant and outreaching. It should be glowing and outgoing, in ever widening circles. Prayer For The Day I pray that my horizons may grow ever wider. I pray that I may keep reaching out for more service and companionship. |

^*^*^*^*^ (\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Unity
"Moved by the spirit of
anonymity, we try to give up our natural desires for personal distinction as
A.A. members both among fellow alcoholics and before the general public. As
we lay aside these very human aspirations, we believe that each of us takes
part in the weaving of a protective mantle which covers our whole Society and
under which we may grow and work in unity. We are sure that humility,
expressed by anonymity, is the greatest safeguard that Alcoholics Anonymous
can ever have."

Daily Reflection
A "LIMITLESS
LODE"
Like a gaunt prospector,
belt drawn in over the last ounce
of food, our pick struck
gold. Joy at our release from a
lifetime of frustration
knew no bounds. Father feels he has
struck something better
than gold. For a time he may try to
hug the new treasure to
himself. He may not see at once
that he has barely
scratched a limitless lode which will pay
dividends only if he mines
it for the rest of his life and
insists on giving away the
entire product.

When I talk with a newcomer
to A.A., my past looks me
straight in the face. I see
the pain in those hopeful eyes, I
extend my hand, and then
the miracle happens: / become
healed. My problems vanish
as I reach out to this trembling
soul.

Pot Luck
"My sanity today is
directly proportional to my honesty."
In the old days, it was hard
to keep my story straight. As my drinking increased, my omissions turned into
half-truths, and these turned into little white lies. After a while, I
couldn’t recognize the truth anymore. As I became disconnected from people and
myself, my very reality changed and my sanity disappeared. After living in
this dark abyss, I finally surrendered and entered the program.
As I began to get sober, I started in on the overwhelming task of unraveling the massive knot of lies, stories, and deceptive behavior I had engaged in. I felt shame, anger, and remorse as I painfully made my way back to my true self, which had been buried beneath the disease of alcoholism. I used the tools of “uncover, discover, and discard,” and after many inventories, I finally saw the light ahead. The road back to sanity began with the words “rigorous honesty.” Although seemingly straightforward, the challenge I had was in coming to believe that, of myself, I was enough—that if I spoke my truth, I would be accepted. The miracle is that the truth really did set me free, and the more honest I was, the more peaceful and serene I became. Today, if I’m feeling uncomfortable, I look to where my honesty may be lacking. As soon as I become genuine again, my sanity is restored. |
