"The language of AA is
the language of self-discovery, of speculation, of wonder.
It has a dual reality:
While it describes experience, it also creates experience,
and allows each member to
grow in the search for personal meaning."
~Grapevine: Thornbury,
Ontario, Aught 1984
“You can change your story
anytime you like.
Just start a new chapter
and begin again. It's your story.”
~Dorothy Mendoza Row
"Life has many ways of
testing a person's will,
either by having nothing
happen at all or
by having everything happen
all at once."
~Paulo Coelho
"Put one foot in front
of the other, no matter what.
Enjoy the hilltop views,
have courage in the valleys,
pay attention to the bends
in the road, cry when you have to, l
augh when you can, be
helpful to others,
share your joys as well as
your sorrows,
and remember that God
created you for a purpose."
~Eleanor Brownn |

Big Book Quote
"Though there is no way of proving it, we believe that early
in our
drinking careers most of us could have stopped drinking. But the difficulty is that few alcoholics have enough desire to stop while there is yet time." Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, More About Alcoholism, pg. 32 |

Tradition Nine - "A.A., as such, ought never be organized;
but we may create service boards or committees directly responsible to those
they serve."
At this juncture, we can hear a churchman exclaim, "They are making disobedience a virtue!" He is joined by a psychiatrist who says, "Defiant brats! They won't grow up and conform to social usage!" The man in the street say, "I don't understand it. They must be nuts!" But all these observers have overlooked something unique in Alcoholics Anonymous. Unless each A.A. member follows to the best of his ability our suggested Twelve Steps to recovery, he almost certainly signs his own death warrant. His drunkenness and dissolution are not penalties inflicted by people in authority; they result from his personal disobedience to spiritual principles. p. 174 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The
Day
Let us continue with Steps Two, Three, and Eleven. We must turn to a Higher Power for help, because we are helpless ourselves. When we put our drink problem in God's hands and leave it there, we have made the most important decision of our lives. From then on, we trust God for the strength to keep sober. This takes us off the center of the universe and allows us to transfer our problems to a Power outside ourselves. By prayer and meditation, we seek to improve our conscious contract with God. We try to live each day the way we believe God wants us to live. Am I trusting God for the strength to stay sober? Meditation For The Day "These things have I spoken unto you, that your joy may be full." Even a partial realization of the spiritual life brings much joy. You feel at home in the world when you are in touch with the Divine Spirit of the universe. Spiritual experience brings a definite satisfaction. Search for the real meaning of life by following spiritual laws. God wants you to have spiritual success and He intends that you have it. If you live your life as much as possible according to spiritual laws, you can expect your share of joy and peace, satisfaction and success. Prayer For The Day I pray that I will find happiness in doing the right thing. I pray that I will find satisfaction in obeying spiritual laws. |

(\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Growing Up "As we grow spiritually, we find that our old attitudes toward our instincts need to undergo drastic revisions. Our desires for emotional security and wealth, for personal prestige and power, for romance, and for family satisfactions - all these have to be tempered and redirected. We have learned that the satisfaction of instincts cannot be the sole end and aim of our lives. If we place instincts first, we have got the cart before the horse; we shall be pulled backward into disillusionment. But when we are willing to place spiritual growth first - then and only then do we have a real chance." Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 114, Copyright 1952 A.A.W.S. Inc.

Daily Reflection
ACCEPTANCE
We admitted we couldn't
lick alcohol with our own
remaining resources, and so
we accepted the further fact
that dependence upon a
Higher Power (if only our A.A
group) could do this
hitherto impossible job. The moment
we were able to accept
these facts fully, our release from
the alcohol compulsion had
begun.
AS BILL SEES IT, p. 109
Freedom came to me only
with my acceptance that I could
turn my will and my life
over to the care of my Higher
Power, whom I call God.
Serenity seeped into the chaos of
my life when I accepted
that what I was going through was
life, and that God would
help me through my difficulties—
and much more, as well.
Since then He has helped me
through all of my
difficulties! When I accept situations as
they are, not as I wish
them to be, then I can begin to grow
and have serenity and peace
of mind.

Pot Luck
When
we begin to take our failures nonseriously, it means we are ceasing to be
afraid of them…Katherine Mansfield
Perfectionism
and its control over our lives stands seriously in the way of our growth and
well-being, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically.
Life's
lessons come through failures probably more than successes. Through our
failures we learn humility. We learn to look to others for help and guidance.
We learn how to let others fail, too. We fail because we are human.
When
we no longer fear failure, we are free to attempt greater feats. We dare to
learn more, and life is fuller for it…not just our own lives, but the lives
that we touch.
Laughter
over our mistakes eases the risk of trying again. Laughter keeps us young,
and the lighthearted find more pleasure in each day.
I
will fail at something I try today. I can laugh about it, though. My laughter
will open the way to another try.
LOVE…above all things,
Patti
