Look past the body, past
the personality, past the behavior,
into the window of one
another's souls.
There we make a connection.
The God in me recognizes
and honors the God in you.

Big Book Quote
"I suppose some
would be shocked at our seeming worldliness and Levity. But just underneath
there is deadly earnestness. Faith has to work twenty-four hours a day in and
through us, or we perish."

Tradition Seven -
"Every A.A. group ought to be fully self-supporting, declining outside
contributions."
Then our trustees
wrote a bright page of A.A. history. They declared for the principle that
A.A. must always stay poor. Bare running expenses plus a prudent reserve
would henceforth be the Foundations financial policy. Difficult as it was,
they officially declined that ten thousand dollars, and adopted a formal,
airtight resolution that all such future gifts would be similarly declined.
At that moment, we believe, the principle of corporate poverty was firmly and
finally embedded in A. A. tradition.

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day Be careful not to brand new prospects as alcoholics. Let them draw their own conclusion. But talk to them about the hopelessness of alcoholism. Tell them exactly what happened to you and how you recovered. Stress the spiritual feature freely. If they are agnostics or atheists, make it emphatic that they do not have to agree with your concept of God. They can choose any concept they like, provided it makes sense to them. The main thing is that they be willing to believe in a power greater than themselves and that they live by spiritual principles." Do I hold back too much in speaking of the spiritual principles of the program? Meditation For The Day "I will never leave or forsake thee." Down through the centuries, thousands have believed in God's constancy, untiringness, and unfailing love. God has love. Then forever you are sure of His love. God has power. Then forever you are sure, in every difficulty and temptation, of His strength. God has patience. Then always there is One who can never tire. God has understanding. Then always you will understand and be understood. Unless you want Him to go, God will never leave you. He is always ready with power. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may feel that God's love will never fail. I pray that I may have confidence in His unfailing power. |

(\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Hangovers "When a drunk has a terrific hangover because he drank heavily yesterday, he cannot live well today. But there is another kind of hangover which we all experience whether we are drinking or not. That is the emotional hangover, the direct result of yesterday's and sometimes today's excesses of negative emotion - anger, fear, jealousy, and the like. If we would live serenely today and tomorrow, we certainly need to eliminate these hangovers." 1952 AAWS Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 88 Thought to Consider . . . I'd rather be better than bitter.

Daily Reflection
WILLINGNESS TO GROW
If more gifts are to be
received, our awakening has to go
on.
AS BILL SEES IT, p. 8
Sobriety fills the painful
"hole in the soul" that my
alcoholism created. Often I
feel so physically well that I
believe my work is done.
However, joy is not just the
absence of pain; it is the
gift of continued spiritual
awakening. Joy comes from
ongoing and active study, as
well as application of the
principles of recovery in my
everyday life, and from
sharing that experience with others.
My Higher Power presents
many opportunities for deeper
spiritual awakening. I need
only to bring into my recovery
the willingness to grow.
Today I am ready to grow.

Pot Luck
Saying
No
For many of us, the most difficult word to say is one of the
shortest and easiest in the vocabulary: No. Go ahead, say it aloud: No.
No—simple to pronounce, hard to say. We’re afraid people won’t
like us, or we feel guilty. We may believe that a “good” employee, child,
parent, spouse, or Christian never says no.
The problem is, if we don’t learn to say no, we stop liking
ourselves and the people we always try to please. We may even punish others
out of resentment.
When do we say no? When no is what we really mean.
When we learn to say no, we stop lying. People can trust us,
and we can trust ourselves. All sorts of good things happen when we start
saying what we mean.
If we’re scared to say no, we can buy some time. We can take a
break, rehearse the word, and go back and say no. We don’t have to offer long
explanations for our decisions.
When we can say no, we can say yes to the good. Our no’s and
our yes’s begin to be taken seriously. We gain control of ourselves. And we
learn a secret: “No” isn’t really that hard to say.
Today, I will say no if that is what I mean.
