“Tonight’s December thirty-first,
Something is about to burst. The clock is crouching, dark and small, Like a time bomb in the hall. Hark, it's midnight, children dear. Duck! Here comes another year!”
~Ogden Nash
“MOTHER TIME: Life goes by so very fast, my
dears, and taking the time to reflect, even once a year, slows things down.
We zoom past so many seconds, minutes, hours, killing them with the frantic
way we live that it's important we take at least this one collective sigh and
stop, take stock, and acknowledge our place in time before diving back into
the melee. Midnight on New Year's Eve is a unique kind of magic where, just
for a moment, the past and the future exist at once in the present. Whether
we're aware of it or not, as we countdown together to it, we're sharing the
burden of our history and committing to the promise of tomorrow.” ~Hillary DePiano
“The New Year is a painting not yet painted;
a path not yet stepped on; a wing not yet taken off! Things haven’t happened
as yet! Before the clock strikes twelve, remember that you are blessed with
the ability to reshape your life!” ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
"I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind!" ~Neil Gaiman |

12&12
Step Seven - "Humbly asked Him to remove our
shortcomings."
But when we have taken a square look at some of these defects, have discussed them with another, and have become willing to have them removed, our thinking about humility commences to have a wider meaning. By this time in all probability we have gained some measure of release from our more devastating handicaps. We enjoy moments in which there is something like real peace of mind. To those of us who have hitherto known only excitement, depression, or anxiety--in other words, to all of us--this newfound peace is a priceless gift. Something new indeed has been added. Where humility had formerly stood for a forced feeding on humble pie, it now begins to mean the nourishing ingredient which can give us serenity. p. 74 |

Twenty-Four
Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
I shall be loyal in my attendance, generous in my giving, kind in my criticism, creative in my suggestions, loving in my attitudes. I shall give A.A. my interest, my enthusiasm, my devotion, and most of all, myself. The Lord's Prayer has become part of my A.A. thoughts for each day: "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Have I given myself? Meditation For The Day As we look back over the year just gone, it has been a good year to the extent that we have put good thoughts, good words, and good deeds into it. None of what we have thought, said, or done need be wasted. Both the good and the bad experiences can be profited by. In a sense, the past is not entirely gone. The result of it, for good or evil, is with us at the present moment. We can only learn by experience and none of our experience is completely wasted. We can humbly thank God for the good things of the year that has gone. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may carry good things into the year ahead.
I pray that I may carry
on with faith, with prayer, and with hope.

(\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Self-appraisal "I used to be a champ at unrealistic self-appraisal. I wanted to look only at the part of my life which seemed good. Then I would greatly exaggerate whatever virtues I supposed I had attained. Next I would congratulate myself on the grand job I was doing. So my unconscious self-deception never failed to turn my few good assets into serious liabilities. This astonishing process was always a pleasant one. . . I was falling straight back into the pattern of my drinking days. . . I shall forever regret the damage I did to people around me. Indeed, I still tremble when I realize what I might have done to A.A. and to its future." Bill W., June 1961 1988 AA Grapevine, The Language of the Heart, pp. 256-7 Thought to Consider . . . When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be.

DAILY
RESOLUTIONS
The idea of
"twenty-four-hour living" applies primarily to
the emotional life of the
individual. Emotionally speaking,
we must not live in yesterday,
nor in tomorrow.
AS BILL SEES IT, p. 284
A New Year: 12 months, 52
weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours,
525,600 minutes—a time to
consider directions, goals, and
actions. I must make some
plans to live a normal life, but
also I must live
emotionally within a twenty-four-hour
frame, for if I do, I don't
have to make New Year's
resolutions! I can make
every day a New Year's day! I can
decide, "Today I will
do this . . . Today I will do that."
Each day I can measure my
life by trying to do a little
better, by deciding to
follow God's will and by making an
effort to put the principles of our A.A. program into action.

Pot Luck
God is our joy, not the lack of problems.
We need to learn to trust. God may not deliver us from what we want to be
delivered from because He may prefer to work something IN us and is actually
using the circumstance as a tool. We always want everything else to change.
We want our circumstances to change and we want all the people around us to
change, but God wants to change US. God is ALWAYS working in our lives, but
He may not be working in the area of our preference. If we trust Him, then we
believe that whatever He's doing is what's best.
