We are never more than one grateful
thought away from peace of heart.
~ Br. David Steindl-Rast
Anger is the real destroyer of our good
human qualities;
an enemy with a weapon cannot destroy
these qualities,
but anger can. Anger is our real enemy.
-His Holiness the Dalai Lama
The content of your character is your
choice.
Day by day, what you choose, what you
think,
and what you do is who you become.
Your integrity is your destiny -
it is the light that guides your way.
~ Heraclitus
"Part of the adventure in life is
not always knowing what is going to happen next. The next part may be
grander than your original plan.
The key to enjoying the journey is
being open to the unknown."
~Anonymous
Prayers are tools not for doing or
getting,
but for being and becoming.

Tradition Four - "Each group
should be autonomous except in matters affecting other groups or A.A. as a
whole."
AUTONOMY is a ten-dollar word. But in relation to us, it means very simply that every A..A. group can manage its affairs exactly as it pleases, except when A.A. as a whole is threatened. Comes now the same question raised in Tradition One.. Isn't such liberty foolishly dangerous? Over the years, every conceivable deviation from our Twelve Steps and Traditions has been tried. That was sure to be, since we are so largely a band of ego-driven individualists. Children of chaos, we have defiantly played with every brand of fire, only to emerge unharmed and, we think, wiser. These very deviations created a vast process of trial and error which, under the grace of God, has brought us to where we stand today. p. 146 |
Twenty-Four
Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
The A.A. program is one of faith because we find that we must have faith in a Power greater than ourselves if we are going to get sober. We're helpless before alcohol, but when we turn our drink problem over to God and have faith that He can give us all the strength we need, then we have the drink problem licked. Faith in that Divine Principle in the universe which we call God is the essential part of the A.A. program. Is faith still strong in me? Meditation For The Day Each one of us is a child of God, and as such, we are full of the promise of spiritual growth. A young person is like the springtime of the year. The full time of the fruit is not yet, but there is promise of the blossom. There is a spark of the Divine in every one of us. Each has some of God's spirit that can be developed by spiritual exercise. Know that your life is full of glad promise. Such blessings can be yours, such joys, such wonders, as long as you develop in the sunshine of God's love. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may develop the divine spark within me. I pray that by so doing I may fulfill the promise of a more abundant life. |

(\ ~~ /) ( \ (AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Rationalization "We 'constructively criticized' someone who needed it, when our real motive was to win a useless argument. We were depressed and complained we felt bad, when in fact we were mainly asking for sympathy and attention. This odd trait of mind and emotion, this perverse wish to hide a bad motive underneath a good one, permeates human affairs from top to bottom. Learning daily to spot, admit, and correct these flaws is the essence of character-building and good living." Bill W. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, pp. 94-5 Thought to Consider . . . Step Ten tells us that when we are wrong, we must "promptly" admit it. We aren't used to admitting our mistakes. We defend ourselves or blame others. This is called denial. Denial is bad for two reasons. First, it keeps us from learning from our mistakes, so we keep making them. Second, we don't listen to others, so we close off ourselves and become lonely. What a relief it is to admit our wrongs! We don't have to keep trying to do things the hard way. We can learn new ways to think and act that will work better for us. We can let other people be our teachers. Prayer for the Day Higher Power, help me out of denial, so I can see the changes I need to make. Action for the Day Today, if I disagree with someone, I'll promptly admit it when I'm wrong. If I'm right, I'll be gentle. I don't have to prove anything.
