Your Daily Reprieve for Tuesday  February 28 ,  2017

From Waynesville, NC

"Drinking is no longer a problem, but my thinking sure is. Writing a gratitude list puts the brakes on negative thoughts, turns me back toward the light, and helps me to see the beauty in everyday life." ~Grapevine: New York, N.Y., January 2006

"Happiness is a butterfly which when pursued is just out of grasp... But if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you."
--Nathaniel Hawthorne

The best day of your life, hasn't happened yet.
~Unknown

“To do anything in this world worth doing, we must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger; but jump in, and scramble through as well as we can.”
~Sydney Smith

Opposition is a natural part of life.
Just as we develop our physical muscles
through overcoming opposition
such as lifting weights,
we develop our character muscles
by over-coming challenges and adversity.
~ Stephen R. Covey

Big Book Quote

"We families of Alcoholics Anonymous keep few skeletons in the
closet. Everyone knows about the others' alcoholic troubles. This
is a condition which, in ordinary life, would produce untold grief;
there might be scandalous gossip, laughter at the expense of other
people, and a tendency to take advantage of intimate information.
Among us, these are rare occurrences. We do talk about each other a
great deal, but we almost invariably temper such talk by a spirit of
love and tolerance."

~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, The Family Afterward, pg. 125~

1258 Total Years of Sobriety

12&12

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

We should be free from alcohol for good.
It's out of our hands and in the hands of God,
so we don't need to worry about it or even think about it any more.
But if we haven't done this honestly and fully,
the chances are that it will become our problem again.
Since we don't trust God to take care of our problem for us,
we reach out and take the problem
back to ourselves.
Then it's our problem again and we're in the same old mess we were
in before. Do I trust God to take care of the problem for me?

Meditation For The Day

No work is of value without preparation.
Every spiritual work must have behind it much
spiritual preparation. Cut short times of prayer and times
of spiritual preparation and
many hours of work may be profitless.
From the point of view of God, one poor tool
working all the time, but doing bad work because of lack of preparation,
is of small value compared with a sharp, keen,
perfect instrument working only for a short time, but that
turns out perfect work because of long hours of spiritual preparation.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may spend more time alone with God.
I pray that I may get more strength
and joy from such times, so that they will add much to my work.

Cheerfulness
But we aren't a glum lot. . . We absolutely insist on enjoying life. . . So we think cheerfulness and laughter make for usefulness. Outsiders are sometimes shocked when we burst into merriment over a seemingly tragic experience out of the past. But why shouldn't we laugh? We have recovered, and have been given the power to help others.
c. 2001 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous,  p. 132

Thought to Consider . . .

Laughter is the sound of recovery.

Daily Reflection

WHAT? NO PRESIDENT?

When told that our Society has no president having
authority to govern it, no treasurer who can compel the
payment of any dues, . . . our friends gasp and exclaim,
"This simply can't be. . . ."
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 132

When I finally made my way to A.A., I could not believe
that there was no treasurer to "compel the payment of
dues." I could not imagine an organization that didn't
require monetary contributions in return for a service. It
was my first and, thus far, only experience with getting
"something for nothing." Because I did not feel used or
conned by those in A.A., I was able to approach the
program free from bias and with an open mind. They
wanted nothing from me. What could I lose? I thank God
for the wisdom of the early founders who knew so well the
alcoholic's disdain for being manipulated.

Native American

The Old Man said, `you are both ugly and handsome and you must accept your ugliness as well as your handsomeness in order to really accept yourself."
--Larry P. Aitken, CHIPPEWA

My Grandfather told me one time that any person who is judgmental to another is also judgmental to themselves. If we want to be free of being judgmental, we need to first work on how judgmental we are to ourselves. If we quit judging ourselves and start accepting ourselves as we are, we will start accepting others as they are. Then we will experience a level of new freedom.

Great Spirit, let me accept myself as I am --honoring both my strengths and my weaknesses.
