“Tonight’s December
thirty-first,
Something is about to burst. The clock is crouching, dark and small, Like a time bomb in the hall. Hark, it's midnight, children dear. Duck! Here comes another year!”
~Ogden Nash
“MOTHER TIME: Life
goes by so very fast, my dears, and taking the time to reflect, even once a
year, slows things down. We zoom past so many seconds, minutes, hours,
killing them with the frantic way we live that it's important we take at
least this one collective sigh and stop, take stock, and acknowledge our
place in time before diving back into the melee. Midnight on New Year's Eve
is a unique kind of magic where, just for a moment, the past and the future
exist at once in the present. Whether we're aware of it or not, as we
countdown together to it, we're sharing the burden of our history and
committing to the promise of tomorrow.” ~Hillary
DePiano
“The New Year is a painting
not yet painted; a path not yet stepped on; a wing not yet taken off! Things
haven’t happened as yet! Before the clock strikes twelve, remember that you
are blessed with the ability to reshape your life!” ~ Mehmet Murat Ildan
"I hope you will have a wonderful year, that you'll dream dangerously and outrageously, that you'll make something that didn't exist before you made it, that you will be loved and that you will be liked, and that you will have people to love and to like in return. And, most importantly (because I think there should be more kindness and more wisdom in the world right now), that you will, when you need to be, be wise, and that you will always be kind!" ~Neil Gaiman |

Book Quote
"It may seem incredible that these men are to become happy,
respected, and useful once more. How can they rise out of such misery, bad
repute and hopelessness? The practical answer is that since these things have
happened among us, they can happen with you. Should you wish them above
all else, and be willing to make use of our experience, we are sure they will come." ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, A Vision For You, pg. 153~ |

Step Ten - "Continued to take
personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it."
Finally, we begin to see that all people, including ourselves, are to some extent emotionally ill as well as frequently wrong, and then we approach true tolerance and see what real love for our fellows actually means. It will become more and more evident as we go forward that it is pointless to become angry, or to get hurt by people who, like us, are suffering from the pains of growing up. p. 92 |

Twenty-Four
Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
I shall be loyal in my attendance, generous in my giving, kind in my criticism, creative in my suggestions, loving in my attitudes. I shall give A.A. my interest, my enthusiasm, my devotion, and most of all, myself. The Lord's Prayer has become part of my A.A. thoughts for each day: "Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil." Have I given myself? Meditation For The Day As we look back over the year just gone, it has been a good year to the extent that we have put good thoughts, good words, and good deeds into it. None of what we have thought, said, or done need be wasted. Both the good and the bad experiences can be profited by. In a sense, the past is not entirely gone. The result of it, for good or evil, is with us at the present moment. We can only learn by experience and none of our experience is completely wasted. We can humbly thank God for the good things of the year that has gone. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may carry good things into the year ahead. I pray that I may carry on with faith, with prayer, and with hope. |

( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Choices Looking back we see that our freedom to choose badly was not, after all, a very real freedom. When we chose because we "must," this was not a free choice either. But it got us started in the right direction. When we chose because we "ought to" we were really doing better. This time we were earning some freedom, making ourselves ready for more. But when, now and then, we could gladly make right choices without rebellion, holdout, or conflict, then we had our first glimpse of what perfect freedom under God's will could be like.

DAILY RESOLUTIONS
The idea
of "twenty-four-hour living" applies primarily to
the
emotional life of the individual. Emotionally speaking,
we must
not live in yesterday, nor in tomorrow.
AS BILL
SEES IT, p. 284
A New
Year: 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours,
525,600
minutes—a time to consider directions, goals, and
actions. I
must make some plans to live a normal life, but
also I
must live emotionally within a twenty-four-hour
frame, for
if I do, I don't have to make New Year's
resolutions!
I can make every day a New Year's day! I can
decide,
"Today I will do this . . . Today I will do that."
Each day I
can measure my life by trying to do a little
better, by
deciding to follow God's will and by making an
effort to put the principles of our A.A.
program into action.

Luck
Thou art without form, butI worship you in these forms; Thou needest no praise, yet I offer you these prayers and salutations. --Hindu prayer The history of the Twelve Steps tells us that in the first small A.A. group there was controversy about the word God. For some of the men God was known in traditional religious ways; other members were agnostic. This first group followed their group conscience. The resolution they achieved has inspired many new Twelve Step members ever since. They were guided through their disagreement to a new expression of their spiritual relationship. They began to speak of a "Power greater than ourselves" and of "God, as we understood Him." Today we turn to God, as we understand God, because our definitions are restricted by human limitations. We know from our own experiences and from the stories of thousands of men and women who have preceded us, that this spiritual program is very practical and simple. It works. It restores our lives. To a Power greater than myself, I am filled with gratitude.
