"Do not take life too seriously.
You will never get out of it alive." --Elbert Hubbard
"The greatest challenge in life is
discovering who you are...
The second greatest is being happy with what you

~William James
"To make the right choices in life, you have
to get in touch with your soul. To do this, you need to experience
solitude, which most people are afraid of, because in the silence you hear
the truth and know the solutions."

Book Quote
"How
dark it is before the dawn! In reality that was the beginning of
my last debauch. I was soon to be catapulted into what I like to call the fourth dimension of existence. I was to know happiness, peace, and usefulness, in a way of life that is incredibly more wonderful as time passes." Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Bill's Story, pg. 8 |

AA Speaker of
the Day
Tom Brady Jr from Charlotte, North Carolina
recorded this Alcoholics Anonymous talk in Indianapolis,
the Eagles song called, “Get Over It.”
The one line that stands out is, “I’d like to find your inner child and kick
his little ass.” Tom said he very often drank when things were going right as
well as when they went wrong. He tells how he got the name, “Puddinhead.”
Once in a drunken blackout, Tom actually drove under a moving tractor trailer

Step Seven - "Humbly asked Him to remove our
shortcomings."
With great intelligence, men of science have been forcing nature to disclose her secrets. The immense resources now being harnessed promise such a quantity of material blessings that many have come to believe that a man-made millennium lies just ahead. Poverty will disappear, and there will be such abundance that everybody can have all the security and personal satisfactions he desires. The theory seems to be that once everybody's primary instincts are satisfied, there won't be much left to quarrel about. The world will then turn happy and be free to concentrate on culture and character. Solely by their own intelligence and labor, men will have shaped their own destiny. pp. 70-71 |

Four Hours

Thought For The Day
"Call on new prospects while they are still jittery. They may be more receptive when depressed. See them alone if possible. Tell them enough about your drinking habits and experiences to encourage them to speak of themselves. If they wish to talk, let them do so. If they are not communicative, talk about the troubles liquor has caused you, being careful not to moralize or lecture. When they see you know all about the drinking game, commence to describe yourself as an alcoholic and tell them how you learned you were sick." Am I ready to talk about myself to new prospects? Meditation For The Day Try not to give way to criticism, blame, scorn, or judgment of others, when you are trying to help them. Effectiveness in helping others depends on controlling yourself. You may be swept away by a temporary natural urge to criticize or blame, unless you keep a tight rein on your emotions. You should have a firm foundation of spiritual living which makes you truly humble, if you are going to really help other people. Go easy on them and be hard on yourself. That is the way you can be used most to uplift a despairing spirit. And seek no personal recognition for what you are used by God to accomplish. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may try to avoid judgment and criticism. I pray that I may always try to build up others instead of tearing them down. |

(\ ~~ /) ( \ (AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Vision ^*^*^ "Vision is, I think, the ability to make good estimates, both for the immediate and for the more distant future. Some might feel this sort of striving to be a sort of heresy, because we AA's are constantly telling ourselves, 'One day at a time.' But that valuable principle really refers to our mental and emotional lives and means chiefly that we are not foolishly to repine over the past nor wishfully to day-dream about the future. . . Vision is therefore the very essence of prudence, an essential virtue if ever there was one." Reflection
A UNIQUE PROGRAM
Alcoholics Anonymous
will never have a professional class.
We have gained some
understanding of the ancient words
"Freely ye have
received, freely give." We have discovered
that at the point of
professionalism, money and spirituality
do not mix.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE
TRADITIONS, p. 166
I believe that
Alcoholics Anonymous stands alone in the
treatment of alcoholism
because it is based solely on the
principle of one
alcoholic sharing with another alcoholic.
This is what makes the
program unique. When I decided
that I wanted to stay
sober, I called a woman who I knew
was a sober member of
A.A., and she carried the message
of Alcoholics Anonymous
to me. She received no monetary
compensation, but
rather was paid by staying sober another
day herself. Today I
could ask for no payment other than
another day free from
alcohol, so in that respect, I am
generously paid for my
labor.

Pot
Luck
-- Robert Frost If we've ever dug in a garden and unearthed an ants' nest, we can recall their first reaction to our unintended destruction: they do everything possible to save their lives and supplies. The ants scurry around, moving the larvae to an underground room. Exposed contents are then relocated to unseen passages. In a matter of minutes, the ants are again safely underground and ready to resume their daily routines. How do we react when some catastrophe or unplanned event occurs? Do we want to crawl under a rock or are we as resilient as the ants? Instead of moaning over postponed plans or the loss of something in our lives, we can try to be like the ants and learn how to best work with circumstances that come our way. Life doesn't stop for us to lick wounds or add fuel to grievances. Hours pass, we grow older, nature continues. Every event is part of life's cycle. We can't run away from anything. We must meet life head-on and adjust to its ebb and flow. I can look at an unplanned event in my life as part of life's cycle. I need to trust that life will go on.
