Your Daily Reprieve for Sunday January 25,
2026 From Lebanon, TN |

“I never thought that a day like today would be a high point of my life. All that excitement that I used to crave and strive for was not there. I don’t have to live on the edge anymore. And tonight as I lay my head on my pillow I can’t think of one
single thing that I did today that I have to go back and redo and make amends for.” Oceanside, California, June 2000 Heard at Rojo Meeting I’m about as deep as a cookie sheet. ~Pat from Ely, NV To finally surrender ourselves to healing, we need to have three spaces opened within us —and all at the same time: our opinionated head, our closed-down heart, and our defensive and defended body. That is the work of spirituality. “We are alcoholics. Even though now recovered, we are never too far removed from the possibility of fresh personal disaster. Each knows he must observe a high degree of honesty, humility, and tolerance, or else drink again.” ~AA Co-Founder, Bill W., October 1947 |

DAILY
REFLECTIONS WHAT
WE NEED—EACH OTHER . .
. A.A. is really saying to every serious drinker, "You are an
A.A. member if you say so . . .
nobody can keep you out." TWELVE
STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 139 For
years, whenever I reflected on Tradition Three ("The only
requirement for A.A. membership is a desire to stop drinking"),
I thought it valuable only to newcomers. It was their
guarantee that no one could bar them from A.A. Today
I feel enduring gratitude for the spiritual development
the Tradition has brought me. I don't seek out people
obviously different from myself. Tradition Three, concentrating
on the one way I am similar to others, brought
me to know and help every kind of alcoholic, just as
they have helped me. Charlotte, the atheist, showed me higher
standards of ethics and honor; Clay, of another race, taught
me patience; Winslow, who is gay, led me by example
into true compassion; Young Megan says that seeing
me at meetings, sober thirty years, keeps her coming back.
Tradition Three insured that we would get what we need—each
other. |

POT LUCK Getting Caught When I was
using, manageability meant not getting caught. Manageability meant getting by
again, keeping the scam going, not letting on, admitting anybody else could
catch on. Being cool — or at least looking cool. Now my life is
different. Now I am out in the open. Now I have admitted that I am powerless.
Now I’ve said I need help in living my life. Now that I am
serious about working my program I should be willing to get caught. I should
be willing to admit that I could have done better at that job. That I wasn’t
very pleasant company last night. That I shouldn’t have acted out with that
other driver. That I should have practiced the Twelve Steps instead of my
anger, or my isolation or my pride. Who catches
me? When I am really lucky I catch myself. I apply the Seventh Step (humbly
asking that defects be removed) or the Ninth Step (making amends) or the
Tenth Step (promptly admitting I am wrong) Other times
people in the program catch me. Something I hear at a meeting will give me a
sudden insight into my own behavior I’ll say to myself, “Hey, the jerky
thing that guy did, I’ve done that too.” Sometimes a
sponsor or a fellow member will point out a defect in operation. Sometimes it
will be a co-worker. Sometimes it will be a family member or a friend. But whoever
catches me attests to the function of a Higher Power in my life. Whoever
catches me shows me that I am not alone. When I get “caught” I learn that I
am a part of the community in action. And in this case the action is helping
me grow. “Getting Caught” . Stepping Stones to Recovery for Men |
