Magic lies in challenging what seems impossible.
Carol Moseley Braun

“If you haven’t been to a meeting for a while,

come, and add to the mix ... we need you.

Come for yourself, come for the Fellowship,

come to celebrate sobriety,

and come for the alcoholic who still suffers.”

~“San Francisco, California, February 1993

A man told me to jump for joy when I am persecuted.

I’ve discovered that obeying His words

by jumping for joy when I don’t feel like it

causes joy to jump into my heart and puts a smile on my face.

It overrides my unpleasant feelings with fun and silliness.
Steve Simms

"Put love first. Entertain thoughts that give life. And when a thought

or resentment, or hurt, or fear comes your way, have another thought

that is more powerful -- a thought that is love."

--Mary Manin Morrissey

Big Book Quote

If, when you honestly want to, you find you cannot quit entirely, or if when drinking, you have little control over the amount you take, you are probably alcoholic. If that be the case, you may be suffering from an illness which only a spiritual experience will conquer.

After three years of trial and error in selecting the most workable tenets upon which the Society could be based, and after a large amount of failure in getting alcoholics to recover, three successful groups emerged--the first at Akron, the second at New York, and the third at Cleveland. Even then it was hard to find two score of sure recoveries in all three groups.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

Since I've been in A.A., have I made a start toward
becoming more loving to my family and friends? Do I visit
my parents? Am I more appreciative of my spouse than I was
before? Am I grateful to my family for having put up with
me? Have I found real understanding with my children? Do I
feel that the friends I've found in A.A. are real friends?
Do I believe that they are always ready to help me and
do I want to help them if I can? Do I really care now about
other people?

Meditation For The Day

Not what you do so much as what you are, that is the miracle-
working power. You can be a force for good, with the help of
God. God is here to help you and to bless you, here to company
with you. You can be a worker with God. Changed by God's grace,
you shed one garment of the spirit for a better one. In time,
you throw that one aside for a yet finer one. And so from
character to character, you are gradually transformed.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that I may accept every challenge. I pray that each
acceptance of a challenge may make me grow into a better
person.

Reminder

W
e constantly remind ourselves we are no longer running the show, humbly saying to ourselves many times each day, "Thy will be done." We are then in much less danger of excitement, fear, anger, worry, self-pity, or foolish decisions. We become much more efficient. We do not tire so easily, for we are not burning up energy foolishly as we did when we were trying to arrange life to suit ourselves.

CHARACTER BUILDING

Demands made upon other people for too much attention,

protection, and love can only invite domination or

revulsion. . . .

TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 44

When I uncovered my need for approval in the Fourth Step,

I didn't think it should rank as a character defect. I wanted

to think of it more as an asset (that is, the desire to please

people). It was quickly pointed out to me that this "need"

can be very crippling. Today I still enjoy getting the

approval of others, but I am not willing to pay the price I

used to pay to get it. I will not bend myself into a pretzel to

get others to like me. If I get your approval, that's fine; but

if I don't, I will survive without it. I am responsible for

speaking what I perceive to be the truth, not what I think

others may want to hear.

Similarly, my false pride always kept me overly

concerned about my reputation. Since being enlightened in

the A.A. program, my aim is to improve my character.

Pot Luck

The more difficulties one has to encounter, within and without, the more significant and the higher in inspiration his life will be. ~ Horace Bushnell

Our Higher Power is always with us, through the joyful and the fearful times. We often don't remember to think of God though, except when we’re troubled. Then or feelings of terror and hopelessness push us to seek help from God, and with this help comes renewed strength and faith that our life is cared for by a greater power than ourselves.

It seems we shouldn't need difficulties to remind us that we can always rely on God, but it’s easy to be complacent when times are good. We can choose to expand and strengthen our relationship with God anytime. Through prayer, meditation, and a conscious attempt to feel God's presence in all situations, we’ll come to know and trust God more fully.

———————————————————

Today I will not wait for a for a troubling moment to think of God. I'll feel God's presence now!
