Gratitude is the vision to see that

WE have been Gifted

 -  Ernest Kurtz

Money is neither my god nor my devil.

It is a form of energy that tends

to make us more of who we already are,

whether it's greedy or loving.

-Dan Millman

Money can buy you the husk of many things, but not the kernel.

It brings you food, but not appetite;

 medicine, but not health;

acquaintances, but not friends;

days of joy, but not peace and happiness.

-Henrik Ibsen

There is a kind of victory in good work,

no matter how humble.

-Jack Kemp

Big Book Quote

"...we aren't a glum lot. If newcomers could see no joy or fun

in our existence, they wouldn't want it. We absolutely insist on

enjoying life."

1742 Total Years of Sobriety

12&12

Step Five - "Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs."

Yet if A.A.'s experience means anything at all, this is not only unwise, but is actually a perilous resolve. Few muddled attitudes have caused us more trouble than holding back on Step Five. Some people are unable to stay sober at all; others will relapse periodically until they really clean house. Even A.A. old timers, sober for years, often pay dearly for skimping this Step. They will tell how they tried to carry the load alone; how much they suffered of irritability, anxiety, remorse, and depression; and how, unconsciously seeking relief, they would sometimes accuse even their best friends of the very character defects they themselves were trying to conceal. They always discovered that relief never came by confessing the sins of other people. Everybody had to confess his own.

p. 56

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

When we came into A.A., we came to believe in a Power
greater than ourselves. We came to believe in that Divine
Principle in the universe which we call God, and to whom
we could turn for help. Each morning we have a quiet
time. We ask God for the power to stay sober for the next
twenty-four hours. And each night we thank Him for
helping us to keep sober for that day. Do I believe that
each man or woman I see in A.A. is a demonstration of the
power of God to change a human being from a drunkard
to a sober person?

Meditation For The Day

I should pray for more faith as a thirsty man prays for
water in a desert. Do I know what it means to feel sure
that God will never fail me? Am I sure of this as I am
sure that I still breathe? I should pray daily and most
diligently that my faith may increase. There is nothing
lacking in my life because really all I need is mine,
only I lack the faith to know it. I am a king's son who
sits in rags and yet all around me are stores of all I
could desire.

Prayer For The Day

I pray for the realization that God has everything I need.
I pray that I may know that His power is always available.

Tolerance

Finally, we begin to see that all people, including ourselves, are to some extent emotionally ill as well as frequently wrong, and then we approach true tolerance and see what real love for our fellows actually means. It will become more and more evident as we go forward that it is pointless to become angry, or to get hurt by people who, like us, are suffering from the pains of growing up.
c. 1952 AAWS
Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, p. 92

Thought to Consider . . .

Honesty gets us sober, tolerance keeps us sober.

Daily Reflection

NO ORDINARY SUCCESS STORY

A.A. is no success story in the ordinary sense of the word. It

is a story of suffering transmuted, under grace, into

spiritual progress.

AS BILL SEES IT, p. 35

Upon entering A.A. I listened to others talk about the

reality of their drinking: loneliness, terror and pain. As I

listened further, I soon heard a description of a very

different kind—the reality of sobriety. It is a reality of

freedom and happiness, of purpose and direction, and of

serenity and peace with God, ourselves and others. By

attending meetings I am reintroduced to that reality, over

and over. I see it in the eyes and hear it in the voices of

those around me. By working the program I find the

direction and strength with which to make it mine. The joy

of A.A. is that this new reality is available to me.

Pot Luck

Today's quotation:

The future is not a result of choices among alternative paths offered by the present, but a place that is created--created first in the mind and will, created next in activity. The future is not some place we are going to, but one we are creating.

unattributed

Today's Meditation:

Is it possible that I'm creating my own tomorrow right here and now?  When I think about it, how can it be possible that I'm not doing so?  After all, my decisions and actions today definitely will affect what tomorrow will be like, no matter how tempting it may be to deny that reality.  And my actions and decisions depend upon the way that I see the world and the people in it, as well as how I see my place in it.

Most people tend to perpetuate their current situations by not changing the way they act or the things they do.  They may not be completely happy or content, but they feel a certain comfort in acting in certain ways.  And just as their actions of last week, last month, and last year have brought them where they are now, if they continue to do things the same ways their tomorrows won't be at all different.  There will be nothing new and exciting there because they haven't done any actions at all that could create that kind of tomorrow.

Many people don't like the idea that we may be creating our own futures, for they don't like to have that kind of responsibility hanging over their heads.  They don't want to think that what they see as negative conditions may be the result of their own actions, and that they alone can change things for the better.  Isn't it easier to live with ourselves when our circumstances are someone else's fault?

What can I create today for my tomorrow?  What can I do today that will allow room in my tomorrow for positive, uplifting conditions?  And just how can I do those things?

It is, truly, up to me.
