I am entirely on the side of
mystery. I mean, any attempt to explain away the
mystery is ridiculous. I believe in the profound and unfathomable mystery of life which has a sort of divine
quality about it. -Aldous
Huxley As we learn to accept our character flaws and
broken moments, and as we learn to accept ourselves for the
times we fail and fall short in life, we grow in our capacity to accept and forgive
others. And as we learn to have compassion for, and maybe even to gently and nonjudgmentally
cradle what we don’t like in ourselves, we, in turn, may very well end up serving as
an incarnate source of compassion for others who are struggling with self-acceptance and
self-forgiveness. -Gary Egeberg “I borrowed others' faith for a long time, and now I'm beginning to get a bit of my own.” ~Grapevine: Atlanta, Ga., August 2001 The love of God is constantly inviting us to
review our childish emotional judgments, & now to accept the good things of life
& ourselves, of our being, of the people, & the cosmos,
& to be grateful for them. Because gratitude, by all odds, is one of the basic dispositions for growth in
the spiritual journey. |

Twenty-Four Hours A.A. Thought For The Day It's out of our hands and in the hands of God, But if we haven't done this honestly and fully,
the chances are that it will become our problem
again. Since we don't trust God to take care of our
problem for us, we reach out and take the problem Then it's our problem again and we're in the
same old mess we were Every spiritual work must have behind it much of spiritual preparation and From the point of view of God, one poor tool is of small value compared with a sharp, keen, perfect instrument working only for a short
time, but that I pray that I may get more strength

Daily Reflection WHAT? NO PRESIDENT? When told that our Society has no president having authority to govern it, no treasurer who can compel the payment of any dues, . . . our friends gasp and exclaim, "This simply can't be. . . ." TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 132 When I finally made my way to A.A., I could not believe that there was no treasurer to "compel the payment of dues." I could not imagine an organization that didn't require monetary contributions in return for a service. It was my first and, thus far, only experience with getting "something for nothing." Because I did not feel used or conned by those in A.A., I was able to approach the program free from bias and with an open mind. They wanted nothing from me. What could I lose? I thank God for the wisdom of the early founders who knew so well the alcoholic's disdain for being manipulated. |

Pot Luck Anthony de Mello – A man found an eagle's
egg and put it in a nest of a barnyard hen. The eaglet hatched with the brood
of chicks and grew up with them. There's a famous story
about the lion who came upon a flock of sheep and to his amazement found a
lion among the sheep. It was a lion who had been brought up by the sheep ever
since he was a cub. It would bleat like a sheep and run around like a sheep.
The lion went straight for him, and when the sheep lion stood in front of the
real one, he trembled in every limb. And the lion said to him, "What are
you doing among the sheep?" And the sheep-lion said, "I am a
sheep." And the lion said, "Oh no you're not. You're coming with
me." So he took the sheep-lion to a pool and said, "Look!" And
when the sheep-lion looked at his reflection in the water, he let out a
mighty roar, and in that moment he was transformed. He was never the same
again. A beggar had been
sitting by the side of a road for over thirty years. One day a stranger
walked by. "Spare some change?" mumbled the beggar, mechanically
holding out his old baseball cap. "I have nothing to give you,"
said the stranger. Then he asked: "What's that you are sitting on?"
"Nothing," replied the beggar. "Just an old box. I have been
sitting on it for as long as I can remember." "Ever looked
inside?" asked the stranger. "No," said the beggar.
"What's the point? There's nothing in there." "Have a look
inside," insisted the stranger. The beggar managed to pry open the lid.
With astonishment, disbelief, and elation, he saw that the box was filled
with gold.
