"A picture of a fire looks like a fire, but it can't burn.

Theory and practice are two different things."
 --Babaji

At least one or more of these three things bring us into AA: l

awyers, livers, lovers. The other ones that do not bring us

are the very ones that bring our friends and teachers.

If we continue to live within our will,

it’s like trying to push water uphill with a spatula.

We should hold an attitude of gratitude for all our life’s experiences

that bring us to this moment. We are Made for this very Moment.

~ David H.- “Livin’MyDream

Every great dream begins with a dreamer.

Always remember, you have within you the strength,

the patience, and the passion to reach for the stars to change the world.
~Harriet Tubman

Being Alone is a markedly different experience from being lonely.

~Clark Mostakas

Big Book Quote

We can look the world in the eye. We can be alone at perfect peace and ease. Our fears fall from us. We begin to feel the nearness of our Creator.

Step Two - "Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity."

To clergymen, doctors, friends, and families, the alcoholic who means well and tries hard is a heartbreaking riddle. To most A.A.'s, he is not. There are too many of us who have been just like him, and have found the riddle's answer. This answer has to do with the quality of faith rather than its quantity. This has been our blind spot. We supposed we had humility when really we hadn't. We supposed we had been serious about religious practices when, upon honest appraisal, we found we had been only superficial. Or, going to the other extreme, we had wallowed in emotionalism and had mistaken it for true religious feeling. In both cases, we had been asking something for nothing. The fact was we really hadn't cleaned house so that the grace of God could enter us and expel the obsession. In no deep or meaningful sense had we ever taken stock of ourselves, made amends to those we had harmed, or freely given to any other human being without any demand for reward. We had not even prayed rightly. We had always said, "Grant me my wishes" instead of "Thy will be done." The love of God and man we understood not at all. Therefore we remained self-deceived, and so incapable of receiving enough grace to restore us to sanity.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

Men and women keep coming into A.A., licked by alcohol, often given
up by doctors as hopeless cases, they themselves admitting they're
helpless to stop drinking. When I see these men and women get sober
and stay sober over a period of months and years, I know that A.A.
works. The change I see in people who come into A.A. not only
convinces me that A.A. works, but it also convinces me that there
must be a Power greater than ourselves which helps us to make that
change. Am I convinced that a Higher Power can help me to change?

Meditation For The Day

Cooperation with God is the great necessity for our lives. All else
follows naturally. Cooperation with God is the result of our
consciousness of His presence. Guidance is bound to come to us as we
live more and more with God, as our consciousness becomes more and
more attuned to the great Consciousness of the universe. We must
have many quiet times when we not so much ask to be shown and led
by God, as to feel and realize His presence. New spiritual growth
comes naturally from cooperation with God.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that God may supply me with strength and show me the
direction in which He wants me to grow. I pray that these things may
come naturally from my cooperation with Him.

Action

"But the program of action, though entirely sensible, was pretty drastic. It meant I would have to throw several lifelong conceptions out of the window. That was not easy. But the moment I made up my mind to go through with the process, I had the curious feeling that my alcoholic condition was relieved, as in fact it proved to be. Quite as important was the discovery that spiritual principles would solve all my problems."
c. 1976 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous,  p. 42

Thought to Consider . . .

Never mistake motion for action.

Daily Reflection

A.A. IS NOT A CURE-ALL

It would be a product of false pride to claim that A. A. is a

cure-all, even for alcoholism

AS BILL SEES IT, p. 285

In my early years of sobriety I was full of pride, thinking

that A. A. was the only source of treatment for a good and

happy life. It certainly was the basic ingredient for my

sobriety and even today, with over twelve years in the

program, I am very involved in meetings, sponsorship and

service. During the first four years of my recovery, I found

it necessary to seek professional help, since my emotional

health was extremely poor. There are those folks too, who

have found sobriety and happiness in other organizations.

A.A. taught me that I had a choice: to go to any lengths to

enhance my sobriety. A.A. may not be a cure-all for

everything, but it is the center of my sober living.

Inner Peace

The first step towards inner peace is to decide to give love, not to receive it.

~~Bernie S. Siegel

“This is a selfish program.”How many times have we heard this? It is true of course. Every time we make a Twelfth Step call we are essentially doing for ourselves. We always benefit. God has given us direct access to happiness. It is a lovely paradox that when we give, we also receive. We are always helped by trying to help another.

Our decision to give love, then can be a calculated one — we already know the results. This shouldn’t be our motive though. Wondering what we are getting out of giving to others can be a hinderance to our peace of mind because we’re missing God’s point. If we concentrate on the giving, the receiving will take care of itself.

==============================================

Today I will try to give unselfishly.

Committee Consideration

from the 73rd General Service Conference

In response to a Committee Consideration from the 73rd General Service Conference regarding any possible future changes to literature written by A.A.’s founders, that committee agreed it would be beneficial to gather shared experience from the Fellowship regarding this topic.
