It’s good to have money and
the things that money can buy,
but it’s good, too, to
check up once in a while
and make sure that you
haven’t lost
the things that money can’t
buy.
~George H. Lorimer
I did then what I knew how
to do.
Now that I know better,
I do better…

within yourself,
then you can also bring
peace to others..”
~Thomas Kempis
"The real value of
setting goals
is not the recognition or
reward,
it's the person we become
by finding the discipline,
courage,
and commitment to achieve
them."

12&12
Step Twelve - "Having had a spiritual awakening as the
result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to
practice these principles in all our affairs."
Like most people, we have found that we can take our big lumps as they come. But also like others, we often discover a greater challenge in the lesser and more continuous problems of life. Our answer is in still more spiritual development. Only by this means can we improve our chances for really happy and useful living. And as we grow spiritually, we find that our old attitudes toward our instincts need to undergo drastic revisions. Our desires for emotional security and wealth, for personal prestige and power, for romance, and for family satisfactions--all these have to be tempered and redirected. We have learned that the satisfaction of instincts cannot be the sole end and aim of our lives. If we place instincts first, we have got the cart before the horse; we shall be pulled backward into disillusionment. But when we are willing to place spiritual growth first-- then and only then do we have a real chance. p. 114 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
The A.A. way of living is not an easy one. But it's an adventure in living that is really worthwhile. And it's so much better than our old drunken way of living that there's no comparison. Our lives without A.A. would be worth nothing. With A.A., we have a chance to live reasonably good lives. It's worth the battle, no matter how tough the going is from day to day. Isn't it worth the battle? Meditation For The Day The spiritual life has two parts.
One is the life apart, the life of prayer and quiet communion
with God.
You spend this part of your life apart with God.
Every day your mind can be set in the right direction
so that your thoughts will be of the right kind.
The other is the life impart--imparting from others
what you have learned from your own meditative experience.
The victories you have won over yourself through the help of God
can be shared with others.
You can help them by imparting to them some of the victory and
security that you have gained in your life apart.
Prayer For The Day I pray that I may grow strong from my times apart with God.
I pray that I may pass on some of this strength to others.

Sponsorship
"Dr. Bob led me through all of these Steps. At the moral inventory, he brought up some of my bad personality traits or character defects, such as selfishness, conceit, jealousy, carelessness, intolerance, ill-temper, sarcasm and resentments. We went over these at great length and then he finally asked me if I wanted these defects of character taken away. When I said yes, we both knelt at his desk and prayed . . . If I live to be a hundred, this will always stand out in my mind. I wish that every A.A. could have the benefit of this type of sponsorship today." 1976 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, p. 292
Thought to Consider . . .
A recovering alcoholic without a sponsor is much like a ship without a rudder. *~*AACRONYMS*~* B I G B O O K Believing In God Beats Our Old Knowledge |

Daily Reflection
A FELLOWSHIP OF
FREEDOM
. . . if only men were
granted absolute liberty, and were
compelled to obey no one,
they would then voluntarily
associate themselves in
the common interest
AS BILL SEES IT, p. 50
When I no longer live
under the dictates of another or of
alcohol, I live in a new
freedom. When I release the past
and all the excess
baggage I have carried for so very long, I
come to know freedom. I
have been introduced into a life
and a fellowship of
freedom. The Steps are a
"recommended"
way of finding a new life, there are no
commands or dictates in
A.A. I am free to serve from
desire rather than
decree. There is the understanding that I
will benefit from the
growth of other members and I take
what I learn and bring it
back to the group. The "common
welfare" finds room
to grow in the society of personal
freedom.

Pot Luck
Keep It Simple
Happiness is not a goal; it is a by-product. --- Eleanor Roosevelt Most of us want to be happy. We just don't know how. We aren't sure what happiness is. We've learned the hard way that some things we wanted didn't make us happy. We're learning that happiness comes when we live the way our Higher Power wants us to live. That's when we’re honest. When we do our best work. When we are a true friend. We make happiness; we don't find it. Sometimes we don't even know we're happy. We're too busy with our work, our recovery program, our friends and family. We need to slow down and know that when we do what we need to, happiness comes. Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, help me know that I'm most happy when I listen to You and do Your will. You know better than I do what makes me happy. Action for the Day: What parts of my program am I most happy about? Today I'll think of these and enjoy myself. |
