“While I wouldn’t recommend
that anyone become an alcoholic,
I believe that sober
alcoholics living the AA way of life
have been blessed with a
gift.
It’s a gift that can’t be
bought,
that can’t be won in a
lottery,
that can’t be stolen,
forged, or rented.”
~Grapevine: Edenvale,
Gauteng, South Africa
"The individual has
always had to struggle
to keep from being
overwhelmed by the tribe.
If you try it, you will be
lonely often,
and sometimes frightened.
But no price is too high to
pay
for the privilege of owning
yourself."
~Friedrich Nietzsche
To love yourself as you
are…
and to love others as they
are…is a miracle,
and to see yourself is to
have found yourself…for now!
~Anne Lamont
Wisdom is using those
things that work for you,
for as long as theywork for
you,
and letting go of the
things
that are not working for
you.
--John-Roger

Big Book Quote
"We have seen
the truth demonstrated again and again.
Once an alcoholic,
always an alcoholic.
Commencing to drink
after a period of sobriety,
we are in a short
time as bad as ever."

12&12
Step Eleven - "Sought through prayer and meditation to
improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for
knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out."
To certain newcomers and to those one-time agnostics who still cling to the A.A. group as their higher power, claims for the power of prayer may, despite all the logic and experience in proof of it, still be unconvincing or quite objectionable. Those of us who once felt this way can certainly understand and sympathize. We well remember how something deep inside us kept rebelling against the idea of bowing before any God. Many of us had strong logic, too, which "proved" there was no God whatever. What about all the accidents, sickness, cruelty, and injustice in the world? What about all those unhappy lives which were the direct result of unfortunate birth and uncontrollable circumstances? Surely there could be no justice in this scheme of things, and therefore no God at all. pp. 96-97 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The
Day
When I was drinking, I always tried to build myself up. I used to tell tall stories about myself. I told them so often that I half believe some of them now, even though I know they aren't true. I used to hang around the lowbrow barrooms so I could feel superior to the other customers. The reason I always tried to build myself up was that I knew deep down in my heart that I really didn't amount to anything. It was a kind of defense against my feeling of inferiority. Do I still build myself up? Meditation For The Day God thought about the universe and brought it into being. His thought brought me into being. I must think God's thought after Him. I must often keep my mind occupied with thoughts about God and meditate on the way He wants me to live. I must train my mind constantly in quiet times of communion with God. It is the work of a lifetime to develop to full stature spiritually. This is what I am on earth for. it gives meaning to my life. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may think God's thoughts after Him. I pray that I may live as He wants me to live. |

(\ ~~ /) ( \ (AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Rationalization "We 'constructively criticized' someone who needed it, when our real motive was to win a useless argument. We were depressed and complained we felt bad, when in fact we were mainly asking for sympathy and attention. This odd trait of mind and emotion, this perverse wish to hide a bad motive underneath a good one, permeates human affairs from top to bottom. Learning daily to spot, admit, and correct these flaws is the essence of character-building and good living." Bill W. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, pp. 94-95 Thought to Consider . . . Daily Reflection
"ENTIRELY
HONEST"
We must be entirely honest
with somebody if we expect to
live long or happily in
this world.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p.
73-74
Honesty, like all virtues,
is to be shared. It began after I
shared ". . . [my]
whole life's story with someone . . . "
in order to find my place
in the Fellowship. Later I shared
my life in order to help
the newcomer find his place with
us. This sharing helps me
to learn honesty in all my
dealings and to know that
God's plan for me comes true
through honest openness and
willingness.

Pot Luck
Unconditional
Love of God
Many of us feel we don’t deserve God’s love. We judge
ourselves harshly and attribute the same judgement to God as the strict
parent, the demanding teacher, or the punishing judge. We can not believe
that anyone could accept us as we are, and so we don’t turn toward God.
Why do we feel this way? Perhaps because it’s hard to believe
that God could love us when we rarely received love without strings attached
from others. Many of us remain skeptical even when new found spiritual friends
shower us with love. Though we may not realize it at the time, these friends
are providing a human framework into which the unconditional love of God can
fit. If these friends can accept us as we are, we think maybe God will too.
And of course God does.
