Your Daily Reprieve 03.15.20

Your Daily Reprieve for  Sunday March  15, 2020

From Jacksonville, FL

"Love yourself enough to set boundaries.
Your time and energy are precious.
You get to choose how you use it.
You teach people how to treat you
by deciding what you will and won't accept."
~Anna Taylor

Some stories don’t have a clear beginning, middle, and end.
Life is about not knowing, having to change,
taking the moment and making the best of it,
without knowing what’s going to happen next.
Delicious Ambiguity.
~Gilda Radner

Despite everything, I believe the world was created for good
and that there is nothing on earth so evil
that a ray of light can’t seep through,
or a pinch of good can’t be seen.
~Hannah Szenes

“I’m free to be the person I’ve always wanted to be,
but never before had the courage to become.”
~Grapevine: Temple, Texas, October 1990

Big Book Quote

"Much to our relief, we discovered we did not need to consider
another's conception of God. Our own conception, however inadequate,
was sufficient to make the approach and to effect a contact with
Him. As soon as we admitted the possible existence of a Creative
Intelligence, a Spirit of the Universe underlying the totality of
things, we began to be possessed of a new sense of power and
direction, provided we took other simple steps."

~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, We Agnostics, pg. 46

1420  Total Years of Sobriety

12&12

Step Seven - "Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings."

This improved perception of humility starts another revolutionary change in our outlook. Our eyes begin to open to the immense values which have come straight out of painful ego-puncturing. Until now, our lives have been largely devoted to running from pain and problems. We fled from them as from a plague. We never wanted to deal with the fact of suffering. Escape via the bottle was always our solution. Character-building through suffering might be all right for saints, but it certainly didn't appeal to us.

Twenty-Four Hours

A.A. Thought For The Day

We alcoholics were on a merry-go-round, going round and
round, and we couldn't get off. That merry-go-round is a
kind of hell on earth. In A.A. I got off that merry-go-round
by learning to stay sober. I pray to that Higher Power every
morning to help me to keep sober. And I get the strength
from that Power to do what I could never do with my own
strength. I do not doubt the existence of that Power. We're not
speaking into a vacuum when we pray. That Power is there,
if we will use it. Am I off the merry-go-round of drinking for good?

Meditation For The Day

I must remember that in spiritual matters I am only an
instrument. It is not mine to decide how or when I am to
act. God plans all spiritual matters. It is up to me to
make myself fit to do God's work. All that hinders my
spiritual activity must be eliminated. I can depend on God
for all the strength I need to overcome those faults which
are blocks. I must keep myself fit, so that God can use me
as a channel for His spirit.

Prayer For The Day

I pray that my selfishness may not hinder my progress in
spiritual matters. I pray that I may be a good instrument

for God to work with.

Neighbors

Near you, alcoholics are dying helplessly like people in a sinking ship. If you live in a large place, there are hundreds. High and low, rich and poor, these are future fellows of Alcoholics Anonymous. Among them you will make lifelong friends. You will be bound to them with new and wonderful ties, for you will escape disaster together and you will commence shoulder to shoulder your common journey. Then you will know what it means to give of yourself that others may survive and rediscover life. You will learn the full meaning of "Love Thy neighbor as thyself."
c. 2001 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 152-3

Daily Reflection

THE GOD IDEA
When we saw others solve their problems by a simple
reliance upon the Spirit of the Universe, we had to stop
doubting the power of God. Our ideas did not work. But the
God idea did.
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, p. 52

Like a blind man gradually being restored to sight, I slowly
groped my way to the Third Step. Having realized that only
a Power greater than myself could rescue me from the
hopeless abyss I was in, I knew that this was a Power that I
had to grasp, and that it would be my anchor in the midst of
a sea of woes. Even though my faith at that time was minuscule,
it was big enough to make me see that it was time
for me to discard my reliance on my prideful ego and
replace it with the steadying strength that could only come
from a Power far greater than myself.

Pot Luck

Ten Rules for Being Human

1. You will receive a body.
You may like it or hate it, but it will be yours for the entire period this
time around.

2. You will learn lessons.
You are enrolled in a full-time informal school called "life."

Each day in
this school you will have the opportunity to learn lessons. You may like the lessons or think them irrelevant or stupid.

3. There are no mistakes, only lessons.
Growth is a process of experimentation - trial and error. The so-called
"failed experiments" are as much a part of the process as the experiments that
ultimately "work".

4. A Lesson is repeated until learned.
It will be presented to you in various forms until you have learned it.
When you have learned it you can then go on to the next lesson. If you do not learn easy lessons, they become harder. You will know you have learned a lesson when your actions change.

5. Learning lessons does not end.
There is no part of life that does not contain its lessons. Every person,
every incident is the universal teacher. If you are alive, there are lessons to be learned.

6. "There" is no better than "here."
Nothing leads to happiness. When your "there" has become a "here," you will
simply obtain another "there" that again will look better than "here."

7. Others are merely mirrors of you.
You cannot love or hate something about another person unless it reflects
something you love or hate in yourself.

8. What you create of your life is up to you.
You have all the tools and resources your need; what you do with them is up
to you.

9. All your answers lie inside you.
All you need to do is look, listen and trust.

10. You will forget all of this.
