“‘Historians may one day
point to Alcoholics Anonymous as a society
which did far more than
achieve a considerable measure of success
with alcoholism and its
stigma; they may recognize Alcoholics Anonymous
to have been a great
venture in social pioneering
which forged a new
instrument for social action,
a new therapy based on the
kinship of common suffering,
one having vast potential
for the myriad other ills of mankind.’”

Big Book Quote
We do not like to pronounce any individual as alcoholic, but you
can quickly diagnose yourself, Step over to the nearest barroom and try some
controlled drinking. Try to drink and stop abruptly. Try it more than once.
It will not take long for you to decide, if you are
honest with yourself about it. It may be worth a bad case of jitters if you get a full knowledge of your condition. ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, More About Alcoholism, pg. 31~ |

12&12
Step Three - "Made a decision to turn our will and our
lives over to the care of God as we understood Him."
Maybe this all sounds mysterious and remote, something like Einstein's theory of relativity or a proposition in nuclear physics. It isn't at all. Let's look at how practical it actually is. Every man and woman who has joined A.A. and intends to stick has, without realizing it, made a beginning on Step Three. Isn't it true that in all matters touching upon alcohol, each of them has decided to turn his or her life over to the care, protection, and guidance of Alcoholics Anonymous? Already a willingness has been achieved to cast out one's own will and one's own ideas about the alcohol problem in favor of those suggested by A.A. Any willing newcomer feels sure A.A. is the only safe harbor for the foundering vessel he has become. Now if this is not turning one's will and life over to a newfound p. 35 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
People who had a slip are ashamed of themselves--sometimes so ashamed that they fear to go back to A.A. They develop the old inferiority complex and tell themselves that they are no good, that they are hopeless, and that they can never make it. This state of mind is perhaps worse than it was originally. They have probably been somewhat weakened by their slip. But their A.A. training cannot ever be entirely lost. They always know they can go back if they want to. They know there is still God's help for them if they will again ask for it. Do I believe that I can never entirely lose what I have learned in A.A.? Meditation For The Day Nobody entirely escapes temptation. You must expect it and be ready for it when it comes. None of us is entirely safe. You must try to keep your defenses up by daily thought and prayer. That is why we have these daily meditations. You must be able to recognize temptation when it comes. The first step toward conquering temptation always is to see it clearly as temptation and not to harbor it in your mind. Dissociate yourself from it, put it out of your mind as soon as it appears. Do not think of excuses for yielding to it. Turn at once to the Higher Power for help. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may be prepared for whatever temptation may come to me. I pray that I may see it clearly and avoid it with the help of God. |

Daily Thought
^*^*^*^*^
(\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Prayer "As the alcoholic goes along with his process of prayer, he begins to add up the results. If he persists, he will almost surely find more serenity, more tolerance, less fear, and less anger. He will acquire a quiet courage, the kind that doesn't strain him. He can look at so-called failure and success for what they really are. Problems and calamity will begin to mean instruction, rather than destruction. He will feel freer and saner . . . Wonderful and unaccountable things will start to happen. Twisted relations with family and on the outside will unaccountably improve." Bill W., June 1958 c. 1988 AAGrapevine The Language of the Heart, p. 241 Thought to Consider . . . Trying to pray is praying. *~*AACRONYMS*~* H O P E Hang On; Pray Everyday |

Daily Reflection
WHEN THE CHIPS ARE DOWN
When we developed still
more, we discovered the best
possible source of
emotional stability to be God Himself.
We found that dependence
upon His perfect justice,
forgiveness, and love was
healthy, and that it would work
where nothing else would.
If we really depended upon God,
we couldn't very well play
God to our fellows nor would we
feel the urge wholly to
rely on human protection and care.
TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE
TRADITIONS, p. 116
It has been my experience
that, when all human resources
appear to have failed,
there is always One who will never
desert me. Moreover, He is
always there to share my joy,
to steer me down the right
path, and to confide in when no
one else will do. While my
well-being and happiness can
be added to, or diminished,
by human efforts, only God can
provide the loving
nourishment upon which I depend for
my daily spiritual health.

Pot Luck
Keep It Simple
Everybody knows that when they're happy, then usually the people around them are happy. --- George Harrison Do we think we can't be happy until others are happy? Then nobody is happy. Our unhappy friends won't take our advice. They say,” Why should I do what you say? You are not happy either." And we answer, "I'll be okay when you're happy." We make them responsible for our happiness. What a mess! We can only make one person happy---ourselves. How? By living as our Higher Power leads us. By working the Steps. By being grateful for the good things in our lives. By loving ourselves and others, just as we are. And maybe when we're happy, our friends will learn from us. They can be happy too. But only our friends can make themselves happy. Prayer for the Day: Higher Power, as I do my part in Your plan today, help me feel connected to You and to life. Action for the Day: Today I'll enjoy my happiness. I'll look for three ways to share it with others. |
