“You’re not stuck.
You’re just committed to
certain patterns of behavior
because they helped you in
the past.
Now those behaviors have
become more harmful than helpful.
The reason why you can’t
move forward is because
you keep applying an
old formula to a new level in your life.
Change the formula to get a
different result.”
~Emily Maroutian
The thing that lies at the
foundation of positive change,
the way I see it, is service
to a fellow human being.
~~ Lech Walesa
A man should never be
ashamed to own he was in the wrong.
--- Jonathan Swift
You've got it backwards.
Taking action isn't a
consequence of confidence and courage,
you gain confidence and
courage when you take action.
~Prayables

Big Book Quote
Yes, there is a long period of reconstruction ahead. We must take
the lead. A remorseful mumbling that we are sorry won't fill the bill at all. We ought to sit down with the family and frankly analyze the past as we now see it, being very careful not to criticize them. Their defects may be glaring, but the chances are that our own actions are partly responsible. So we clean house with the family, asking each morning in meditation that our Creator show us the way of patience, tolerance, kindliness and love. ~Alcoholics Anonymous, 4th Edition, Into Action, pg. 83~ |

Foreword
Though the essays which follow were written mainly for members, it is thought by many of A.A.'s friends that these pieces might arouse interest and find application outside A.A. itself. p. 15 |

Twenty-Four Hours
A.A. Thought For The Day
I have turned to a Power greater than myself. Thank God, I am no longer at the center of the universe. All the world does not revolve around me any longer. I am only one among many. I have a Father in Heaven and I am only one of His children and a small one at that. But I can depend on Him to show me what to do and to give me the strength to do it. I am on the Way and the whole power of the universe is behind me when I do the right thing. I do not have to depend entirely on myself any longer. With God, I can face anything. Is my life in the hands of God? Meditation For The Day The grace of God is an assurance against all evil. It holds out security to the believing soul. The grace of God means safety in the midst of evil. You can be kept unspotted by the world through the power of His grace. You can have a new life of power. But only in close contact with the grace of God is its power realized. In order to realize it and benefit from it, you must have daily quiet communion with God, so that the power of His grace will come unhindered into your soul. Prayer For The Day I pray that I may be kept from evil by the grace of God. I pray that henceforth I will try to keep myself more unspotted by the world. |

(\ ~~ /) ( \(AA)/ ) (_ /AA\ _) /AA\ ^*^*^*^*^ Self-will "The first requirement is that we be convinced that any life run on self-will can hardly be a success. On that basis we are almost always in collision with something or somebody, even though our motives are good. Most people try to live by self-propulsion. Each person is like an actor who wants to run the whole show; is forever trying to arrange the lights, the ballet, the scenery and the rest of the players in his own way. If his arrangements would only stay put, if only people would do as he wished, the show would be great. Everybody, including himself, would be pleased. Life would be wonderful." c.1976 AAWS, Alcoholics Anonymous, pp. 60-1 Thought to Consider . . . Daily Reflection
"BY FAITH
AND BY WORKS"
On anvils of
experience, the structure of our Society was
hammered out. . . .
Thus has it been with A.A. By faith and
by works we have
been able to build upon the lessons of an
incredible
experience. They live today in the Twelve
Traditions of
Alcoholics Anonymous, which—God
willing—shall
sustain us in unity for so long as He may
need us.
TWELVE STEPS AND
TWELVE TRADITIONS, p. 131
God has allowed me the
right to be wrong in order for our
Fellowship to exist
as it does today. If I place God's will
first in my life, it
is very likely that A.A. as I know it today
will remain as it
is.

Pot Luck
“So you also outwardly appear
righteous to men, but within you are full of hypocrisy and inequity.” ~ Matthew
23:28
In a Charlie Brown comic strip,
Charlie is asked by Linus, “Charlie Brown do you want to know what’s the
trouble with you?” Charlie says,“No.” The two stare at each other. Then Linus
says, “The the trouble with you Charlie Brown, is that you don't want to know
what is the trouble with you.”
That's everyone's problem. The
threat of honest examination and the thought of admitting our flaws is never
welcome. We all resist any criticism, any thought of our imperfection. To
admit our “character defects” is to confront the most stubborn resistance we
have to recovery. The Fourth Step is the beginning of real change, real
healing.
We take the desperate steps of
surrender in Steps One, Two and Three. Now we enter a new world of
restoration and rebuilding. The Fourth Step focuses us to look at ourselves
not our disease, at our character not our illness. Such a “fearless moral
inventory” is hardly free from fear! It's full of it! Yet as fearful as we
are, such a self inventory is the doorway to change and new health - it is
the road of repentance, of changing course toward fuller recovery. The pain
of examining the exact nature of our wrongs is as intense as our pride. The
larger the ego, the tougher and the longer the fourth step. Yet the greater
the pain, the better the outcome and the more certain the victory of God over
ego, in the more wonderful restoration and reunion with God.
Dear God, I have so many flaws.
I have such a warehouse of past wrongs. Please help me see them and confess
every one. Look with me. Amen
